I think there will be lines but not to the extent of the 3G. Pre-orders and the magnitude of changes (not as much changed between the 3G and 3Gs then 2G and 3G) will mean a smaller lines. I don't know if they did this for the 3G but both ATT and apple are saying they'll open early (where allowed) to facilitate the sales.

I think people who are upgrading from a 2G or a 3G are mostly doing it online but those who are interested in getting their first iPhone will probably want to go in and do it in person in case there's a problem with activating, or switching their phone number
You must be joking, there are way more changes this time compared to 3g, the only changes for the 1st iphone was 3g and gps.

I talked to a friend that works at the applestore by me (freehold raceway mall in NJ)

She said there are over 400 preorders right now for the store.

According to Apple and ATT store.. they are backordered and will not have line available unless you pre-ordered

This is incorrect to an extent. I asked the lady at a local ATT store today: "say you get 15 iphones in, and 13 people pre-ordered, does that mean there are only 2 iphones for dirst-come first-serve people?" She went on telling me how they will get "2 Shipments" in a sense. They will get stock iphones in and they will get the pre-ordered ones in. They will come in at the same time. When she was trying to convince me to pre-oreder (I told her no, because I like waiting in lines camping out) she said "well your gonna be pissed if you dont get one the first day because they are back-ordered, so after we sell out of our first stock, we won't have them for a while." So I guess they will get an initial stock that they are guaranteed and anything after that is on back-order. I'm going at midnight, I hope there arn't too many people there by then... Unfortunately thats the same night that they are opening up sales for Britney Spears 2nd part U.S. tour and I have to ensure me and the GF get good seats:rolleyes: shhh, don't tell anyone Im going. We went when she was in the U.S. in March too, lol. So basically I can't camp out until after I order those....ugh.

I too shall be waiting in my driveway for the Fedex truck. Sometimes I take a spin around town to find the driver and tell him "oh, I thought I would save you a trip" so I can get it even earlier. This is going to be a long week waiting for the 19th!
