I am still using my MacBook 12 twice a week while commuting and I’m going to decommission it with neo.

I need something that I can take without worrying about the cost and weight on it

And I need Mac

Multiple configs starting to slip. The argument for success is strong.

There's no other laptop in the same price range that has all this in one .....

CPU as powerful as the A18 Pro
Runs a full OS that's also optimized
Aluminum build
Fanless cooling
2408 x 1506 display at 500 nits
All day battery life (up to 16hrs)
Excellent Trackpad
Wifi 6E / BT 6
Weights 2.7 pounds
FPS (TouchID $699 version)

I noticed the same earlier today. The silver and Indigo were still showing 3/11.
Funny, I ordered a silver one right when they were announced, but now I'm leaning towards an Indigo one. Not sure if I'll order another one & return the first, but that one is really growing on me. Glad to see those are the ones that still have availability in case I change my mind.

Not “Will you buy one?” “Do you think it’s a good value?” but will this be a success, unlike the 12” MacBook that was discontinued after just 3 years?
We're about to find out! I am surprised by the people I know that are buying one. It's not for me, but it's DEFINITELY for many people I know. There's more of them than I thought.

Sitting here on my $650 13 inch m2 macbook air with 16GB of ram thanks to macrumors posting the sale when the M3 Air's launched. I had to settle for starlight to get the steepest discount. But no regrets.

If you look at laptops in the 500 to 600 range they suck. The track pad is cheap, keyboard is cheap. Screen is cheap. This Neo is a great laptop for light users aka me. Steam, writing, chrome browsers.

That’s something if you go to Best Buy the build and feel of regular laptops are horrible at the 800 and under range. I like my keyboards and track pads and screens to be quality.

My work dell laptop is one where all of the above is just plain cheap. I have to hook it up to a monitor and external keyboard (I used a15 yr old Mac keyboard by the way) and Logitech mouse to make it work. I rarely type on it or use it as a laptop.

Gosh I would love it if my local county government it department moved to the Neo.

There are many other companies, this was just an example. Here is one of Asus ... or is Asus not good enough?

The CPU performance is about 25% worse, and 8GB RAM is barely usable for Windows 11.

The point is to go up against the likes of this: https://www.bestbuy.com/product/hp-...2023-4gb-memory-64gb-emmc-sky-blue/JJGS9KW6JQ

It's targeted at people that already own an iPhone, but think a Macbook Air is too expensive and an iPad isn't useful enough.

It will sell extremely well.
I agree exactly: iPhone owners, schools and parents who buy cheap PCs. It's an enormous market. So as long as Apple doesn't screw up the software and make the 8GB hurt, it will be a big seller.

You could always order a second one and return the one you don't want.

I ordered both the Citrus and Indigo - my wife will probably want one - @Apple_Robert thinks wife will want the Citrus. Will see next Wednesday!

I think it'll sell really well. Too many people on tech forums forget what the average user cares about. The average user writes emails, plays on Facebook and Youtube, and maybe does some light office software. At $599 (less if you're a student) these things will be very popular for back to school.

Please stop spreading misinformation, you can get laptops like this in the US. And it runs Windows 11 pro, not Chrome OS.

And not a single BAD review for either!

Joking aside, those are not premium brands like Apple.

Hate to sound like a snob, but the first one feels like one of those disposable Chinese crap brands off Amazon - you know, like "ZZYHOUXY Best Electric". When the bad reviews flood in, they switch the name to something else random which conveniently wipes out the bad reviews.

If I'm a parent scraping together $300-400 for a laptop for my kid, for their EDUCATION, I'd probably scrape up another $100-200 for something from a company that has a reputation at stake.

It will sell a lot. Will it be a success by Apple standards? Who knows? I thought selling millions of iPhone minis was considered successful, but as we know, it wasn't enough. As long as there is no huge negative PR related to performance or limited capabilities from the target audience, it should be a "success."
You say "It will sell a lot." In this case that alone makes it "a success by Apple standards" because it is an entry level device. As long as Neo sells without denigrating the Apple brand it will be a success. Probably it will evolve, because that is what new products do, but it will be a success.

Be aware that the silver color is the only available color that will not adversely affect your color perception of on-device imagery.

Given the garbage tier pc hardware on the market and the hatred for windows 11 - people will play with this in Costco or whatever next to PCs selling for 2x the price and see and feel the difference that quality input devices and screens make.

This is the moment where Apple starts growing from <10% of the pc market to double or triple.

SATA SSD (like 8x slower)
CRAP SCREEN
PLASTIC
CRAP KEYBOARD
CRAP WIFI
BARELY FUNCTIONAL BLUETOOTH
SLOWER CPU

The one single metric that actually meets or exceeds the neo is storage capacity and memory capacity. Which is largely negated by running windows on it.
