Great, do you have a link to that info?

http://store.apple.com/us/buy-iphone/iphone5s

Go about halfway till you see the blue hyper link "learn more about the unlocked iPhone"

In there it states you are ineligible for subsidized pricing if this is your desired option on your iPhone. Meaning, you pay full price for the iPhone which registers in Apples system as an unlocked iPhone. So all you have to do launch morning is tell the Apple employee that you are not using an upgrade and would like to pay full price to have the phone unlocked.

Its actually quicker for them to check you out that way than it is to go through the upgrade process. And that doesn't take but 10-15min

No offense to anyone its so stupid how threads like this pop up year after year, does anyone not learn that an UNLOCKED iphone is nothing more than the same iphone you can buy at apple store that is for att at full price, if you pay full price it is factory unlocked....

Heck if you buy on contract pay $2 on ebay the same day and its unlocked viola! This has been happening for years now, nothing new

What is stupid? The threads pop up because new people come to the forum and have questions, I'm sorry but this will be my first unlocked phone and I came to the forum for help and discussion and I believe that is why the forum is here on first place but for what I've been experiencing the past couple of days the forum is full with haters and trolls.

That you can get a phone at full price is nothing new but that Apple is willing to give you a non carrier SIM free specific phone on launch date without doing an upgrade on your contract and make you sign in for another two years with your carrier is another thing and that's what is this thread is for, to find some information about purchasing unlocked in the store on Friday morning.

I've been talking with customer service and I've asked in the Apple store by my house and I've got mixed answers. The don't know if they are going to allow sim free phones on day one yet.

It looks like you know what to do and how to get your phone and I congratulate you, I didn't know until know but thanks to your polite guidance I'm all set.

That link does not mean too much, I was told that is just a placeholder for now and it could change at 12:01 Friday morning, the 5C you can purchase sim free or with t-mobile sim on Friday but they are not sure about the 5s as it looks like they do not have as many as th 5C.

I guess the best bet is to purchase online and then go to the Apple store in the morning, if they have the one you want you can cancel previous order and walk put with your new phone.

I apologize if I came off in a rude or criticizing manner, I suppose I could have just explained buying off contract is factory unlocked or as I stated you can get it unlocked for a few dollars.

Here's my question regarding this. Say that you get a carrier phone unlocked through third party but then you have to warranty that phone for some hardware failure at apple. Will the replacement phone be locked again to the carrier?

As long as the phone is SIM Unlocked, the replacement will be unlocked too regardless of where and who you buy it from, as long as it's within Apple's initial or AppleCare+ warranty.

For clarification sake there is no difference between the unlocked version and tmobile version except the tmobile version comes with a sim that needs to be activated if you want to use it on tmobile?

I always buy it under att upgrade for $199 and have it unlocked via an imei unlock site. However this year i do NOT want to use my upgrade so i had the same question as everyone else. The 5c has options for BOTH unlocked with t mobile sim and unlocked no sim. However the 5s only has the unlock with T mobile sim. I am not a T mobile customer so i am not sure how this thing works. I was doing some research and other people who purchased the iphone 5 for "$580 unlocked with T mobile sim" had to wait 40 days or something to get their phone unlocked. Im assuming its because they didnt pay the full $650. Well im not making this purchase based on assumptions so I am just going to hope that at 3 am Eastern Time the option for a 5s unlocked without sim shows up online. Otherwise im not taking the risk of purchasing an unlocked T mobile one and T mobile giving me problems on getting it unlocked. ATT is so easy to get unlocked only if T mobile was the same lol. If anyone has any solid information or based on their previous experience of purchasing an iphone unlocked T mobile and getting it to work with any sim please do share.

Ask for sim free / no contract at full price will be unlocked but they won't tell or advertise it that way

Did last year on iPhone 5 launch ... As I have Tmobile which wasn't official carrier then.
