I hope they will licence the technology so that consumers have more choice but I wouldn't be surprised if they keep it as proprietary technology in order to increase the sales of their own headphones.

Apple would probably elect to only license it to companies that won't cannibalize their own lines too much (not going to see $50 no-name headphones with them in other words). I could see Sennheiser etc. license the chip for their headphones.
what are the benefits besides easy pairing of the w1 chip? I know it improves battery life, but once you're paired what's the real benefit? I don't normally pair and unpair my jaybirds so kinda interested to some other benefits I'm not aware of.

Moving between devices is significantly easier. The Studios are annoying be comparison to the solo3. That being said, the battery life differential is insane and the number one highlight.
