No one said the ‘Series 5’ Apple Watch isn’t coming, if you read back, there isn’t really much indication through leaks (both hardware/software) that a Series 5 may be probable for a fall release.

There is no indication either way. But the September event is basically right around the corner, so just wait for that. If there is no S5 in September, you‘d have to wait until 2020. Or get the S4, which is still amazing.

Someone brought up that it is strange there are ZERO rumors for 2019 regarding the Apple Watch besides a ceramic case. I think maybe they will do a small spec bump to the series 4 a la Airpods 2? Or maybe release a new SS color? It's odd because even when Apple had released The Rose Gold and Gold Sport in 2015 those were rumored prior

Interestingly as we are only nine weeks away from a potential release of iPhone 11 and AW5, there has been no news or stories about AW5. We have been fed appetisers about iPhone 11, the new MacBooks and ipads but nothing about a new watch

I feel like the watch has a much tighter supply chain than the phone. Plus, it ships is smaller numbers so fewer people have a chance to leak information about the watch. I feel like with the watch we're seeing an Apple that's much closer to what we saw years and years ago rather than current, more leaky Apple.

All we got was Kuo claiming there will be a new Ceramic version this fall. Will this be part of the S5 launch or just a special edition of the S4 – at this point we just don‘t know.

The Apple Watch doesn’t really have that many suppliers compared to the iPhone per se. The only use primarily ‘Quanta computer’, which is the main sole supplier for the Apple Watch currently.

Traditionally, there really hasn’t been that many leaks with the Apple Watch. Respectively, it looks exactly the same year to year, with the exception that it’s offering a larger display in 2018. There actually has been more software code leaked than there actually has been hardware leaks over the course of the last three years.

I dont imagine there being a huge design/hardware shift. I think what they need is a convincing feature but those aren't rumored until 2020. I feel like if there isn't going to be a brand new apple watch, we will at least be seeing a spec bump which is good enough for me as I'm still using the 38mm screen o_O

I’ve mentioned it before, I just don’t think the Apple Watch really needs to be released every 12 months, unless it offers something rather compelling in terms of health feature upgrades or something else, it would just be more of an ‘S type upgrade’ like the iPhone this year. Apple is very unpredictable, there may not be an Apple Watch in September, or it could likely be in spring 2020 or later.

I am betting that Apple does release new watches this year. A few updates to keep it fresh, sales have been really good!

I feel like the shelf life on these apple watches are better as compared to iPhones. I've read numerous people on this forum still using the 1stgen apple watch! (that's a little nuts imo..)

I hope they release something fresh this year all i want is an Hermes watch

I think they have put out new watches every year so I think we will both be happy! My SBSS S4 is already claimed by a family member!:)

I'm sure they release a watch every year. How would they attract new customers who didn't have a watch before? Convincing them to buy last years model when they updated them every year for the past 4 years won't work. Even if they do just minor and mostly cosmetic updates, they will update the watch this fall.

I'd be surprised if there was a series 5 this year. If there is, its not going to be redesigned as there is no way Apple is going to let the new design be out of date after one year. The original Apple Watch design was around up until last year and it isn't going to just be tossed so quickly because it would make no sense for Apple to do so financially.

If there is, the only difference would be software wise (like improved cell reception and new chip) as well as potentially better battery life. Outside of that there has been zero indication that any new watch will be released this year.

Wearables is Apple’s fastest growing segment. Apple wants to encourage shorter replacement cycles during this extremely profitable growth phase. Watch Series 5 is virtually guaranteed to come this fall.

At minimum, I would expect Apple to update the Intel baseband and use the new “Leap Haptics” engine.

The Only problem with the Hermès model, is it’s geared towards those who want the expensive leather band in a fashionable box, That’s it. There really is no other discernible difference besides having the Hermes watch face, but it’s a boutique item with the Hermes branding, that’s really what you’re purchasing.

Tomsguide.com has a recent article on a 2019 and 2020 watch.

His take seems to be Apple will have a 2019 watch upgrade because they always do, but some of more interesting possibilities, like sleep tracking, a camers, and - yep - oder detection, may come in 2020 because increased battery life is needed.

He also mentions a possible new tech LED type display to replace the OLED screen, which would improve battery life, but more likely 2020.

Given that 2018 was a re-designed case, my guess is 2019 will use the same, and be a modest upgrade, mostly inside - like a faster processor - new IOS, etc. Maybe cosmetic changes - colors, etc.

Looks like 2019 is going to be a sleeper year for Apple, and 2020 is going to be an expensive year for apple users: the 2020 iphone looks like a major upgrade, and perhaps the watch as well.

Maybe. He’s just guessing as any long time user here can. The smart money would tend to go with history with Apple releasing every fall. Until they don’t for whatever reason. But this category is too important to Apple imo to switch gears right now.
