On the O/S side of things, android is already an iphone killer.

Also, i'll be buying the new Dell Streak with that 5 inch display when it comes out in a week. Too bad you're locked into only Apple's hardware. Android users get to pick and choose what's right for them.

enjoy having an update take months due to all the hardware and apps not working for your device correctly.

99% of that 3million were customer upgrades. Not new customers

First of all, where did you get 99%? Second, even if it was 99%, that means 99% could have chosen a different phone. Finally, which other competitor has even gotten 1 million of their phones sold in 3 weeks?

Until another phone can sell 3 million units in 3 weeks, there won't be an iPhone killer.

Even if that 99% figure is accurate, it's irrelevant because it means they're staying with the iPhone rather than ditch it for the "iPhone killer."

Im just saying you act like 3mill in 3 weeks is amazing when the majority of them were all upgrades. The best phone ATT has is Iphone, if the iphone was on say Verizon, people have a selection like droid x, and droid 2(soon).
Is it a surprise everyone with att has a iphone?

what apps dont work for the current android version? unless youre trying to download a version thats not out for a few weeks, all the apps work.

the only iphone killer is steve jobs's design team

yes.. the new iPhone 5 coming out June 2011 ;)
+1

I think the iPhone killer will be the "Android XLP2 Dream Impossible EVO+1 Incredible"... which will be released 47 months from now, after 46 unsucesful android phones... however it wont be appealing to many people because by that time the screen will be the size of the ipad...

Even if that were true (and it's not), that doesn't matter. The phones were still sold, and that's how market share is counted. The old phones just don't go away. Some might be kept as spares, but many are resold or given to others to use.

That's beside the point. 3 million customers could have upgraded to a different device and killed the iPhone. Moreover, they could have switched carriers.

If Verizon had the exclusive deal for the iPhone, all of the Droid phones would be on a different carrier, most likely AT&T.

And if AT&T and Verizon both had the iPhone, then some of the higher end Droid phones would be coming to AT&T too.

The only reason AT&T doesnt have the better Android phones is that they don't want to piss off Apple. Verizon wouldve done the same thing.

The iPhone is simply, in a league of it's own. It isn't trying to be like anyone else's product. But it's own. That's what makes it such a beautiful thing

This thread was more of the question at how can people get sucked into the Droid bonanza if their phone is going to be outdated in a few months? I mean I know technology moves quickly but it's hard to believe that no one is talking about the Droid Incredible anymore. I don't see any commercials about it and it's all about the Droid X and soon to be Droid 2. I would just feel pretty bad if I spent 300$ and then come to find a few weeks later there is already bigger and better, phonewise I might add.

By this time next year Android will have the polish of Iphone OS. And iphone OS will have a better notification system, which is prehaps that 2 biggest knocks against both OS'es.

At that point it will about features, and Android will still have more flexiblity.

I think that the term in general is sort of silly.

Its not a bad question, but we'd have to first explain what is meant by it. Does it mean it's desirability? If that's the context I'd say no. The iPhone hasn't plateaued. The 3rd quarter numbers indicate that. Iphone sales (with a couple weeks of i4 sales included) were UP 61% (or 8.4 millions units) Thats no small profit margin.

The popularity of the iPhone has been remarkable. Are there some who would buy it regardless of performance? Probably, however the functionality and enjoyability of using the device is what is driving the sales up.

I'm not sure what it would take to "kill" the iPhone. I don't see it happening anytime soon. Even with the "issue" in the iPhone 4 release, it still can't stay on the shelves.

It's a great time to be an Apple fan.

One thing I like about other manufacturers is they have a variety of form factors. Different sizes, shapes, QWERTY, slider, flip, etc.

After three years, some people will get sick of holding a slab of grease against their ear. You thought flip phones carried alot of germs, what about all the stuff touchscreen picks up from your every touch. At some point, people will get sick of waiting for technology to improve and will start to hate the form factor or carrier exclusives to AT&T.

iPhone depends on Apple's time. An annual span. When technology is moving faster than they are, they will get left in the dust. Just this year, Apple played catch-up just bumping the MP to 5, adding LED flash, front-facing camera, and a 1Ghz CPU. It was a big evolution to iPhone, but nothing revolutionary to the entire industry. Nothing game changing. It has rested its laurels from apps and a slick UI from three years ago.

The only reason AT&T doesnt have the better Android phones is that they don't want to piss off Apple. Verizon wouldve done the same thing.

Then why did AT&T start selling the Samsung Captivate? That is a better phone than the Droid X. They didnt need to do that since all the other carriers are getting it. AT&T dont need to kiss Apples ass. They have an exclusive deal with them.

As for an iPhone killer. Dont think the iPhone will be killed but with some better phones out there now, they could lose some of teh market. Doesnt mean anything except there are more choices and that is a good thing.
I love the iPhone but i will never sign up with AT&T. My 2G is still functional but it is laggy now from updates from 1.1 to 3.1.2, so i got an Android to take me to 2012 and see if Apple goes to more carriers. If they do, great. Maybe ill get one. Then again, if Android is doing great as i expect them to, then maybe ill stick with that. Android will really be taking off when Gingerbread comes out come October or so. By the end of the year anyway.
