I have never once participated in these phone-war threads, but I read daily, the entertainment value is the best thing for free that's available, a fantastic stress reliever if you don't get emotional.

But every now and then, certain comments jump out as especially noteworthy. I want to thank this contributor for making this a better day.

Yup, Apple is now going to be brought down by germs.....thanks for the chuckle.

This thread was more of the question at how can people get sucked into the Droid bonanza if their phone is going to be outdated in a few months?

People get "sucked into" the iPhone with two year contracts, and yet it gets updated twice as often. Should Apple only put out a new model every two years?

It's nice to see so many choices, even if we can't buy every new model the instant it comes out :)

I mean I know technology moves quickly but it's hard to believe that no one is talking about the Droid Incredible anymore.

There's still lots of interest in the Incredible. Especially since BGR says it'll be getting Froyo and more in the next few weeks:

The update will also include 802.11n Wi-Fi support, 3G Mobile Hot Spot, 720p video recording, and more.

As it turns out, some people jumped on the X, but went back to the Incredible because they didn't need the larger display and/or missed the Sense UI.

iPhone killer will have motion control so you dont even have to touch it.

It will be like the Microsoft XBOX 360 Kinect but on the bottom of your phone.

Last year I'd have said there was no alternative,
now having used a few android phones (and seeing how many there are)
I think they have almost caught up OS-wise.

Only problem is every android phone I've used seems slightly sluggish UI-wise and not as smooth as iOS. Even scrolling seems more jerky.

And that's not trolling, serious question:

Is this due to the iphone having/using its GPU for than its CPU for the UI, and android using CPU only ?
Or too much abstraction in software?

i always thought an ipad with bluetooth capabilities to make calls would be cool. any thoughts?

Yes, a bit geeky?

The same way its lame to see those same dudes still having their bluetooth on everywhere so they seem like they're about "business" and then their wife you can tell is just embarrassed and sick and tired of them and their corny style.

Every day contemplating running away with some pool boy named Alejandro and having a passionate romance on a beach somewhere.

touchy! ive always hated seeing people run around with bluetooth in their ear.

There are lots of possibilities to replace the iphone...but people have to get "comfortable" with it. The majority of people get comfortable with the technology theyre using and are in a shell until something big happens. So, when all the androids come out, there isn't anything exciting or ground breaking to cause all the comfortable people to jump ship and make that the next big item.

will there ever be a true iPhone killer?

Yes, phones that can actually make calls, hold signal, and have good voice and sound quality. You know, phones. See Blackberry, Samsung, Nokia.

Seriously, there are some great phones available. Just go to http://www.gsmarena.com/stats.php3

Also you can play around with the search feature and dial up any kind of phone you want based on manufacturer, carrier, thickness, weight, style, etc.

The iPhone 4 doesn't work. At least not as intended. Any phone that can't hold signal and drops calls is fail.

You also should review worldwide sales. Yes, iPhone is successful. I concede that. But other handsets and carriers sell and service far more than Apple and AT&T.

Finally, you really should look at some other handsets. Slim, quality build, far better reception and sound quality than iPhone. Plus you don't look at RIM, Samsung, Nokia or even Droid every time you use the damn thing to see how many bars you got, worried that you're going to drop calls or have reception issues. What an annoyance this iPhone is.

Sounds like its all in your hater mind.

If you are so smug. why hang out in an iphone board?

The other handsets are sluggish and ugly. what don't you understand about that? You're comparing them like they are the same when they are not.

uhhh, i've not dropped a call one!!! get off your soapbox.

The iphone is the leader in all phone innovation. youre simply in denial because you love some other phone. youre trying to ride the antenna issue...but its not working. :) good day!

I said good day!!

This is a funny statement, it's the other way around. Apple needs to catch up to Android's OS. Apple is missing way too many features and always has to play catchup (i.e. folders)

One word: Evo. I'd have one now, but I can't get the wife off AT&T. I had an Evo for awhile to test it out and loved it, and Sprint's plans are better than what AT&T has to offer. I don't know about the rest of the country, aside from what I can see on Sprint's coverage map, but in my area (Austin, TX), coverage is great, and the Evo was faster on 3G than the iPhone 3GS or 4. I'm actually not even counting its 4G capability in my opinion, because although 4G is "available" here, it doesn't work reliably indoors, takes forever to catch a signal if left off and turned on only when needed, and drains the battery alarmingly when it does work, so who needs it?

This is just my opinion, and I did end up with an iPhone 4, since I'm stuck with AT&T. Gotta keep the wife happy, and it's not like the iPhone 4 is a POS or anything. I got lucky and got one with only the antenna "problem", which I have to work pretty hard to reproduce, making it a non-issue for me. It's a nice phone. But pound for pound, I like the Evo at least as well, and in some ways better.

That's the way I felt in regards to the iPhone 4 / iOS4 announcement - this is Apple playing catch-up. However, iOS4 is ahead of Android in terms of fluidity, UI experience. Hopefully Gingerbread changes this.

to be honest, i think i was bether off with a blackberry, i just hate it theres no keyboard on my iPhone...

Apple will be their own iPhone killer if they keep putting out faulty phones.

That being said, I have an iPhone 4 and don't plan to return it, but I do plan on exchanging it until I get one without a faulty proximity sensor.

And I will be much more cautious with future Apple purchases. I don't think I'll preorder another product. I'll wait until it comes out and see what people are then saying

On the O/S side of things, android is already an iphone killer.

Also, i'll be buying the new Dell Streak with that 5 inch display when it comes out in a week. Too bad you're locked into only Apple's hardware. Android users get to pick and choose what's right for them.

Too bad? Seriously? Why do we make this thing a competition? Do you guys seriously buy phones strictly on the premise of being able to say "mines better than yours"? What a joke. I bought the iPhone 4 because iPhone suit my needs best.

No, there will never be an iPhone killer. If you didn't already know, the App Store plays a BIG part in keeping the iPhone on top, and it will continue to keep it there. The Android Marketplace is full of half-baked apps as well as viruses, so they have some tinkering around to do before they are even worthy of going head to head with Apple's App Store.

the only time i've heard the words "iphone killer" lately are from paranoid/insecure iphone users.

What constitutes a [fill in] killer? Sales? Functionality?

Apple products may not be the best, but it's appealing to the masses, which makes it successful on almost every level. If you want trendy, simple, and pretty, you stick to Apple products. If you want openness and the option to tinker, which is NOT what the average consumer wants, you buy everything else.

When you see the typical mom or teenager using the phone, you know you've reached a critical point. The informed tech savvy folks (fanboys included) are the minority when it comes to trends and are not the driving force behind Apple's recent success.
