I did enjoy the screen size of my Sony GDMFW900 24" CRT Monitor, but I didn't enjoy the 93lb weight, 21" depth, and 170w power draw. My Dell offers 1.5" more screen size, weighs 75 pounds less, doesn't require me to use a corner desk to provide clearance thanks to it's 8" depth and draws only 57w.

Oh, and it was $500 instead of $2000.

So I'll just keep my LCD, thank you. :D

See...to me this case is closed.
I doubt there is ever going to be a new update ever again.
Those things are 4 years old!!
Apple just figured its just not worth it updating their display series anymore since they wont get like any market-share. And just because some hundred maybe some thousand hardcore apple freaks want a pretty monitor sitting on their stylish desks Apple wont spend millions of dollars.
Its just a company trying to make as much profit as possible.
Ive lost my faith:(

If it was confirmed that they would not be updating or releasing new displays. I would go out and get one in a heartbeat. As you said, it's been 4 years, very much around the time they update displays, I'm afraid of getting one now as I am pretty sure the updates will come soon

zer0tails, that's why i'm holding off buying a Cinema Display right now and it always happens too, as soon you buy a Cinema Display Apple brings out a new one out of the Blue, Apple doesn't tell anyone when there coming out they just surprise you with "ONE LAST THING" at the end of a special event, my advice just get a display for right now temporary until Apple does decides update the Cinema Display and also do this goto Apple.com and goto to any feedback on the Apple products and ask for "Product Enhancement" for the Cinema Display if enough people do it, Apple gotta listen.

Sorry to jump on this thread, but does anyone this the updated ACD's will be significantly better than the current ones?

The reeason I ask is because I have a 23" ACD at the moment and am negotiating a deal for a 2nd one to match it, but I don't really want to spend £400 on a 2nd hand display if updated ones may be far better.

Thanks

Nobody knows for sure, my guess though, you will be safe for a while.

For that price, and a 24" at that. I would easily buy the 30" ACD, cheaper too, and looks better. But of course, I am not a professional so I don't need the super color accuracy of the HP.

but you might want to wait, I think Apple could be next with this LED-Back-lit, I'm waiting definitely now

No matter what I'm waiting, I have a 17-Inch temporary until Apple does decides to update them, I'm not in a rush to get one right now, I want a 30-inch Cinema Display but the current one's been out for almost 4 years, and If I buy the 30-inch now and the new one's comes out believe me it's going to be harder to sell your old one to get the new Cinema Displays because everybody will want the new Cinema Display not the old one that been out for almost 4 years, Apple is going to update them sooner than later, the question is when? just fine something that will get you by until Apple brings out New cinema displays that's is what I'm doing, I already have my money ready for the 30-inch just waiting for the right time to buy it and right now is not the time in my opinion.

I was trying to find a Product Enhancement for the Cinema Display in the Apple FeedBack page but thay don't have a feedback for the Cinema Display, So what I did is went to the Mac Pro feed back and put when are New Apple Cinema Displays coming out but I doubt their not going to take it seriously but it's a start, maybe Apple may listen.

Get the 30" NEC. Better and cheaper than the ACD. http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/17/necs-30-inch-lcd3090wqxi-makes-pros-swoon-linguists-scowl/

I was really hoping for DisplayPort because I was expecting it with Montevina for the anticipated July MBP Refresh; however, the new ATI 3870 for Mac has dampened this hope a bit. It only uses dual-DVI. I really think Apple is going to go to DisplayPort when new displays are announced and I think this will happen in tandem with MBPs and Mac Pros.

A question, though: I am shifting from CRT to LCD finally. I mostly type text on my monitor but I also want to do video editing and begin to do digital photography with this monitor. While the ACD would handle the last two admirably, do you think the current ACDs would handle text okay without causing eye strain? I know the blacks are not as deep as *VA panels, so I would like to know what others think about doing a lot of textual work on an ACD.

But have you check out HP's new back-lit display the DreamColor LP2480zx and Samsung's XL30 LED-backlit 30-inch monitor, I think Apple may be next and I want everything Apple I have a 3.2GHz 8-Core with 512MB 8800GT and I want a Apple display to go with it but the NEC does look nice just wish the NEC, HP's LP2480zx, Samsung's XL30 came in aliumum silver design that will match the Mac Pro even better, but thay all come in black and it doesn't look right with a Mac Pro, I look at so many manufacturers like Dell's 3008WFP, Gateway's XHD3000, Samsung's 305T, Eizo CG301W,HP LP3065, and the Apple Cinema Display HD and at out of all of these displays the Apple Cinema display just looks better than all of them but not in the spec's,their lagging in that area but I hope by the end of this year or at least some news that Apple is working on a new displays but Apple is always tight-lip on upcoming products and I don't want to be the person that buys a 30-inch now and regret it later and wish that they would of waited a bit longer, I have a 17-inch I can use temporary until Apple does decides that their coming out with a new display, i'm not in that big of a rush to buy my 30-inch just waiting for the right time to buy one

LED displays are too expensive and that won't change anytime soon. Maybe in two more years...
