Honestly, any hardware upgrades will either not affect or barely affect the software on the phone on the user's end...
-3G - Faster Data and probably a new little 3G icon. That'd be it.
-GPS - Would likely only affect Maps.app
-Better Camera - Wouldn't affect the application, would just affect the output.
-More Storage - Would affect the iPhone as much as the difference between a 4gb and 8gb iPhone. Basically, there is none.

Thanks for all of your advice guys.

For me, the only upgrade I am really interested in at the moment, is an increase in capacity. As Macworld is only a week away, it probably is a good idea for me to resist temptation and see what Steve's keynote brings.

I imagine Apple will implement 3G, GPS and a better camera into the iPhone for release later in the year. I don't think Apple will be in a rush to add these features for release straight away. After all, the iPhone has only been available for 6 months in the US, only 2 months in Europe and it is still the best phone on the market.

Roll on Macworld!

Cheers,
