an interesting side note!!

My friend ordered a new mbp last week and her order is not going to ship until the end of th month!!! could be a hint as to the release date for the new os or perhaps a hardware change for the mbp line.

i personally will wait for at least one major revision before i get it unless of course there is a smoking good promo price !! :)

There is a huge backlog for MBP at the moment, its normal to have such a long ship date for one.

Beyond that, Timemachine is going to be sweet. I had a drive corruption on Friday which I lost a few important things. (Its funny, because the failure happened during a backup using deja vu) After that I realized that timemachine is going to be really nice in the event that happens again. I could have been back up and running in less then 3 hours instead of wasting most of my day at work restoring my data, getting a loaner, using disk warrior to pull as much as a can, etc.

Saved my ass the other day. It was 4am and I was stupid (as 4am is wont to do to diurnal people.)

Day 1, but installed on a new hard drive. I'll keep my current hard drive with Tiger on it in case there are too many problems with Leopard. I've been wanting to upgrade my MacBook to a 7200RPM drive anyways.

There was a massive backlog of Dell laptops the last 6 weeks or so. It was due to components needed for the displays. The same problem may have been affecting Apple's laptop supply. It was something to do with the parts needed for wxga displays.

I'm looking forward to waiting in line with my fellow Mac fans the day Leopard is unveiled to the general public. :D Day 1 here.

This is no way meant to condone piracy, but do you think Leopard will stick with the lax / non existent serial system of previous versions or start to tighten things up?

I doubt they'll do anything as extreme as with Vista, although that is now easily cracked.

My guess is that Apple will change things under the hood to make Leopard not install or run on generic x86 boxes, but leave the user installation experience about the same as it was with Tiger. If Apple does require a serial number, they'll probably use the same system iWork uses. I think that it's unlikely Apple will require a serial number to install Leopard, but it's also not out of the question.

I'm an ADC member so I'll be getting it free. I'll probably be standing in line anyways because the experience is awesome!

I'll get Leopard for my MB within a month and on my new iMac when I purchase it in October. :D

Who will wipe their system and do a clean install versus an upgrade?

I was planning to upgrade on Day 1. I waited until 10.4.3 before moving from Panther to Tiger but for some reason the hype has got into my brain and I plan to buy Leopard on the day of release. I must be mad (along with half the people on this thread).

I was a little concerned about Adobe's comments that CS3 isn't guaranteed to be fully 10.5 compatible (yet) especially as I use that suite all the time here at home. Hmmmmm.

I have a Mac Pro and a MacBook and plan on buying the family edition as the cheapest way to upgrade the two machines. I guess I could stick it on the laptop first and only upgrade the Pro after a few days when any horror stories have emerged.

Nah! We all know I'm going to install it on the Pro just as soon as I get home with the box!!!!

I don't understand what is changing in Leopard that would make it incompatible with any existing Universal product.

Depends. It might be a day 3 or day 4 install. Must check Native Instruments forums first for Traktor Scratch problems. If there isn't, I will install.
