I intended that kind of option to go into "No, I'll be keeping whatever I have." but I guess it isn't exactly the same as your situation... I don't think I can modify the poll to add an "I'll be upgrading from my iPhone to something else"

It's interesting that 7 out of 7 voters with iPhones prior to the 4 will not be getting the iPhone 4S. Kind of makes sense... We're the bunch who has resisted an upgrade before, and we'll do it again if Apple's upgrade is a half baked iPhone 4S.

No it doesn't make sense. the iPhone 4 itself is a major upgrade from any previous model. The nex model, whatever it's called, will be at least a meaningful upgrade from the 4 and therefore a world of difference from the 3GS, let alone anything before.

HSPA+ may be a deciding factor for me. I think its safe to assume a faster processor, more ram, probably a better camera, maybe a bigger screen. If it has all that but not HSPA+ then no. I may upgrade based on AT&T's '"4G" alone.

I have no choice at this point. Stuck w. a 3G and really want the functionality that comes with iOS5. Still think we'll see a 5 though.

I have been tired of my 3GS for a long time. I'm close to breaking down & getting a 4, so of course I'll be getting the 4S.

I'm in the opposite boat as most on here. I like the devices small, and I have small-ish hands, so I want the device to stay around the same physical size (if they manage to bump the screen size and thin out the bezel that's fine). I work for a company that tests Android devices, and the larger ones are FAR less pleasing in my hands than the 3.5"-3.7" variety (Plus my current personal phone is a Nexus One which is almost identical in size as a 3GS). I've played with them all too, all the way from the tiny ass Veer 4G (we do WebOS too, all 4 phones, lol), all the way up to the 4.5 Samsungs and the Streak. No bueno for me, keep them little. As long as the 4S is in the same ballpark dimensions-wise, I'm in. If not, I'll grab the 32GB iPhone 4 once prices drop.

As sad as it is, in a moment of weakness I actually got so frustrated with my phone (which has issues at the hardware level reading the SIM, a new SIM won't remedy it) that I almost walked out the door to get an iPhone 4 YESTERDAY. But I pulled myself back from the brink, lol.

Hmmm... yeah, come to think of it, my 3GS is literally breaking down. Last month I dropped it and the plastic backing started separating from the silver rim by the sleep button. Still... I'm in school and operating at a deficit, so I need to stretch my money and try to get my 3GS (and my original Mac Book Air and my 2007 iMac) to last me as long as possible.

It seems whatever's coming out, unless it is LTE ready, then it may not truly be a 5th generation iPhone. That may be my reason to stick with my iPhone 4. (though I'm not a techy, & don't know if that's crucial, lol)
-They should save the "5" for when it runs on 4G, and has everything else newly designed as well! That'll be the next generation & wow us all.

The iPhone being restricted to 3G for it's fourth iteration (with no future proof ability) would be sad indeed.

HSPA+ is fine by me and much much better on battery life than LTE... its a shame Verizon doesn't have something like that.

Yep.

I'm a fanboy who won't be able to pass it up.

I'm just admitting it as I'm told admitting you have a problem is the first step to solving it.

Thanks ap3604, I'll look into that! I thought I heard you/someone mention that around these parts. That way (I guess), they could have HSPA+ for the 4s & 4G ability on the iPhone 5, possibly beefing up & improving the old 4 altogether until then! (I'd even seriously consider such a 4s)

Yes, I have a 3G and it's ridiculously slow. Whatever they come out with I'm buying it. I'll just buy the 5 next year if it's a massive improvement.

It will be called an iPhone5, though it may be no more than a slight upgrade = iPhone4s. Generation 5 + iOS5 = iPhone5, regardless of what the upgrades are. :D

All that said, my POS BBStorm is close to dead , so I'm getting whatever the best of what they release.

I'll be sticking with my iPhone 4 if all they release is a 4S. It'll be the first year I've not purchased on iPhone on launch day, but 1) my iPhone 4 still works fine 2) I have 10 more months of AppleCare and 3) I really want a larger screen and different form factor. The iPhone 4 is boring. :(

I would only contemplate it if the 4S had a 64 GB flavor. If not, then absolutely not.

The 4S would still sell like crazy but be a colossal disappointment in my eyes and many others.

(It's really interesting to note how many people on MR and other tech websites are essentially saying "I'm bored with the form factor of the iPhone 4." I completely agree with that sentiment too by the way.)

People keep saying their 3GS devices are on the brink. I still have my old 3GS and I swap back and forth between that and my HD2. I have to say it still works and looks great. I'll be passing it on to my sister when I get the iPhone 5 (she isn't the most tech savvy and just wants an iPhone).

As for comparing the 3.5" screen on the 3GS and the 4.3" screen on the HD2, I'd say something in the middle, but closer to the HD2 screen size would he perfect for me.

4" or bust

The iPhone 4 is just physically too small for me. I feel like I need a tweezer to work it. As much as I love the iPhone/iOS experience, I'll be jumping ship if apple sticks with the 3.5" screen again.

I will probably still upgrade although it may well depend on the cost of an unlocked sim free phone as well as what upgrades they have done to the various features. 64GB storage capacity and a faster processor would certainly be nice. I'm not too keen on a bigger screen if it means a bigger phone although it's not a deal breaker for me.

I see no reason to upgrade from an already amazing phone (iPhone 4) to an only slightly more awesome phone (iPhone 4s). If it's a big update, however, then maybe I'll consider it. But for now I'm extremely pleased with my ip4 so I'll just stick with what works

I voted I'll stick with my IP4, but with the following caveat.

If it's a IP4S with a bigger screen in the same form factor as the IP4, I'll upgrade. If the screen size remains the same, I'll stick with my IP4. Just getting an A5 chip and upgraded camera wouldn't entice me enough to upgrade from my IP4.
