Yeah, it varies from store to store. Luckily for me, the closest store to me is very calm and works out well if you get there about an hour before opening.

My closest store is at a mall. The line when I went for the 3G was so long, that for breakfast, they came around with free coffee. At 12.30 ish, they came around with free nugets from Chick Fa Lay. It was that nuts. I will simply pre order and ship to my house

I'll wait, but just to try out the thing (I'm getting it, regardless :D). Oh, and of course, to meet new people. Hopefully some :apple:-lover folks. ;)

Menlo Park Mall at NJ?

I'll probably be there. Last year I got to the store at about 4AM. There were maybe 7 people in line. They formed the people into two lines which placed me third in line. I was out of the store in 10 minutes. It was also cold and raining so this year I'll bring a jacket just in case.

Will be waiting there at about 4AM. Apple Ardmore Store for me. Very nice neighborhood, suburban setting. Free coffee and donuts too!

for all those people pre-ordering make sure you pre order it right after it comes out, otherwise you won't get it

i waited in line for the 3G since there was no pre-order option.

i will be pre-ordering this year if it's available.

Funny, I always said I wouldn't wait in line for anything but after meeting some good people when I got my 3G, I'll do it again. They brought coffee and doughnuts and the buying process was as painless as it could be. Like someone said- I was also out in 10 minutes.

I'm not sure as yet...it'll depend on if/how they handle preorders and what time the store that's near where I'm going to be will open that morning. I'm going to be in FL for the month of June and know there's an AT&T store nearby, but I don't know if they'll be carrying the iPhone or not, or if I'll have to drive a bit further.

This is an entirely serious post, but for the people who wait in line, do you feel kinda funny or self-conscious? I don't know. I would feel like I'm falling for the hype or like sheep waiting for the slaughter. I wouldn't like the stares people would be giving me. I suppose it could be OK if I was much younger though. Otherwise, it seems kinda silly waiting in line for a cellphone.

Personally, I didn't feel silly last year, but I wasn't in line all that long, either. I preordered and showed up maybe 1/2 an hour before the store opened, mainly because I, in a dorky kind of way, wanted a little bit of the "waiting" experience. The 3GS was my first iPhone and in previous summers I'd been kind of jealous of everybody else who got to go through the whole deal (good God, I'm a geek :p ). Anyway, I was the first preorder who showed up, so I got into the store first. Most of the people there waiting were younger than I am, but there were a couple of guys my dad's age who were more geeked than I was, FWIW.

Kinda but I would feel worse if I didnt do something I wanted to do because I was worried about what strangers thought of me. I agree its a bit dorkey to wait in line but I have been looking forward to trading up from the 2g for a while now. I dont feel like I need to have it the minute it comes out but I do NOT want to miss the first wave and the phone goes on back order for a month.

I have never waited in line of a new product before but I have never been this excited about a new product before. I think that if I can't pre-order it on-line and have it shipped on launch day I may take a day off.

If it sucks or if its raining I'll give up and order it online even if it takes a few extra days,, I'm not totally crazy (I hope)

No, I don't stand in long lines to buy anything. i really like my 3Gs 32gb and even though I qualify for a dicounted upgrade I will wait a couple of weeks and read the reports on this forum and others. If I like what I read I will go the AT&T store and pick it up and play with it. If I really, really, really like it I'll buy it. If not, I wont. The new look doesn't mean anything to me because if I buy one it will be put in a case. Like I said I like my 3Gs. Oh, and I could care less about a front facing camera.

I will be in the line if I don′t have anything else to do that day. But the biggest problem is that iPhone comes to many European countries much later than in USA and a few other bigger countries. I hope there will not be too much delay.

Absolutely hate waiting in lines. Will be preordering as soon as it's available in the Apple online store

If I do wait in line I probably should NOT wear a Starwars shirt. Nope.. that would just be to high on the dork scale.

It would make the odds of an old high school girlfriend walking by and seeing me in line increase by at least 50000x

I'll more than likely head to the Apple store downtown to wait in line for the new iPhone and then proceed to go to work afterwards
