Does anyone think even Apple don't have a clue when ipad 5 will launch?

They really can't. There are still some issues with the fingerprint reader, if they introduce it with the iPad 5/iPhone 5S, and IOS 7 they have to address first. Then they of course will know when it will be actually released.

The iPad 5 has been growing on me, and i probably will end up selling my iPad 4 and getting one

The retina mini too? Good to hear, I was sure Apple would delay it with at least one more generation. I hope that both iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 will be released in summer already.

He didn't straight up say the retina Mini was coming, but did confirm that the rumored casedesign was accurate so I assume the retina Mini comes along with it. He also said he would wait a little longer before buying an iPad and that they are to be refreshed relatively soon

If it's thinner and lighter, I'd definitely go with the 5.

iPad Mini wins people's heart by being significantly lighter and thinner, and look cute too with thinner bezel.

Now if iPad 5 could approach the same level of Mini, along with Retina, bigger battery and speedier SoC, oh boy ain't that a geek haven?

people used to say an iPad with a front facing camera would be geek heaven
then people said that an ipad 2 with retina display would be geek heaven.
then they said an ipad 3 with a faster SOC/graphics and better front camera and less heat would be geek heaven
now they say an iPad 4 with an even faster SOC and smaller and lighter enclosure would be geek heaven

it never ends!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the information, this makes it easier for me to wait for the 5 (or mini 2) :)

If it shoots lasers, does my laundry and makes me a sandwich every day at 11:57am sharp. Then I'll sell my 4th gen and pick it up. Otherwise I'm ok

It would be geek haven .. for now..

Technology will never stop at one point. In the future, iPad might end up like Blackberry Playbook and becomes irrelevant. Who knows?

But as for now, iPad is a great device. And being closer to the lightness of iPad Mini is a welcome change. iPad 3 and 4 are admittedly cumbersome after some time lifting it.

I have an iPad 3 and the only way I will upgrade is to move away from a wifi only iPad to a Verizon iPad because I'm getting tired of having to use hotspot from my phone.

Honestly however the iPad 3 performs perfectly for almost everything I throw at it. I think this upgrading for a few scraps of performance enhancement is getting crazy. It made sense going from iPad 1 to iPad 2 and iPad 2 to iPad 3 but now it is becoming less and less important to upgrade. I firmly believe most of what will be cool and new about the iPad 5 will actually come from IOS 7 which most of us will be able to use anyway.

The level of potential innovation for these things is starting to taper off. Now that mobile device technology has matured it is going to be harder to wow people or for people to notice a huge difference between generations.

I will if...

Ill buy it if it comes in 128gb (hopefully but doubt it so in 256gb) storage if not ill wait, until the ipad 5 comes in 128gb will see.

Right now on the 2, 4 is very tempting but will wait for 5. Will probably go for 64GB Wifi + Celluar. I just hope the rumours of it being lighter and sporting a mini-esque design are true. I'm also hoping for the typical spec bumps e.g. quad core processor, double the current RAM.

Anything else would be a pleasant bonus. Now just the long arduous wait till October or thereabouts.

If the ipad 5 becomes 25% lighter than ipad 4, how much difference would that make? Do you think it would be a huge advantage?

i nay get a 5 if it looks like the mini, or a retina mini if its a decent spec.
ive had an ipad 2 and then a mini when that came out but gave my mini to my mum when i got my 11" air. i miss having an ipad though

I will get one - I believe its the first "next-gen" iPad - complete new redesign; new processor, more RAM ... a new benchmark device.

Not so interested in the mini - its basically an iPad3 in a smaller form factor - sorry not spending money on technology that is rapidly approaching its expiration date (give it 2-3 yrs).

I have held on to my Gen 3, but it seems with every update it is a little slower. I will be purchasing the newest one when preorders get announced.

Don't you mean iPad 2?

I believe the new iPad mini with retina will be based on iPad3 technology - this is how Apple will keep a healthy distance between the iPad and iPad Mini.

The small form factor comes at a price I am not willing to pay knowing that the iPad 5 will be the next-gen tablet, faster, lighter, etc. - to see that kind of technology in the iPad Mini you would have to wait for some yrs (2+) ... so for me the decision is easy - iPad 5, paying today's money for technology of today.

tres simple mon ami :)
