This. I've been using iPhones since the first one a week after launch. I have needed 1 replacement and I paid $199 for it. So I would have paid $100 x 3 (for 3 phones) plus a $50 deductible for 1 replacement is $350. As it is, I've paid $199. I'll continue to take my chances.

As for durability, my 2 year old daughter grabbed my phone off my nightstand and, since she wanted it downstairs, threw it off the upstairs landing onto the tile floor on the first floor. Cracked the bumper case, but the phone was fine. Fastforward to yesterday, I'm now using the phone with no bumper. She (now 3) was using it to look at pictures. She was leaning over the back of a recliner and dropped it 3 feet onto the same tile floor. She brought it to me for inspection and still no breaks. Apple makes a great product.

Hilarious, thanks :)

Squaretrade is a few dollars cheaper but you have to send your phone in to them for repair. I had to do this with my iPhone 4 and I didn't get it back for 5 days. This time around I'll be going with AC+ so I won't be without a phone that long.

Squaretrade has a coupon for $35 off of a new iphone warranty (for iphone 5) that you can get from their facebook page.

EDIT: oops sorry, I see this has already been posted.

Without Applecare+ you have a 50/50 chance of having your phone replaced free of charge, but with Applecare+ are you required to pay the $49 or the genius can waive the fee?

My iPhone 4 had a shattered screen and they replaced it free of charge. Im trying to decide if I should take the 50/50 chance for a free replacement and pay $200 if required or the $100 upfront and $50 if needed.

It's 9.99 on other phones. I think he said 14.99 on iPhones. I was just in there the other day.

You are correct. It is $9.99 on non-iPhone smartphones and $14.99/month for iPhones. If you'd rather skip a monthly credit card deduction and don't mind paying it up front, it's $229 (the last time I checked--please verify with your local store).

Pros: No deductible. Unlimited claims.
Cons: No carrier billing (must come out of credit or debit card every month). They send your phone out and it is gone for 2-5 business days until you get your replacement.

Another con for BBY? I used to work at Best Buy. I worked with some real morons back in the day. Also, BBY and Verizon make next to nothing on iPhones, so they usually try to pawn some other money-making product onto you. At least at Apple, they're there to sell Apple.

In my opinion, Verizon's plan is the worst. $10.99/mo AND a $149/$199 deductible? Biggest ripoff in the business. Unless, however, you lose your phone. Since theirs is the only true "insurance" plan, they are the only ones that will help you out if you lose your phone. I know when I was working at the evil blue empire, they showed us all these studies about how people are so attached to their phones anymore, they're much more likely to break them than lose them. This is definitely true for me--if I leave my phone in the house, I'm not even out of the driveway before I realize it and turn back around.

Me? I'm going with AppleCare+. They're much less likely to try to find a reason to turn me away for a claim in their store, and they're always the most knowledgeable on the products.

Lets say you get applecare+ and you haven't used it and your coming up to the 2 year mark, is it ok to break your iphone on purpose just to get a new shiney one? :D

Is it worth it for an iPhone?
Worth is always subjective, regardless of topic. There are plenty of prior threads with different opinions on the worth of Applecare+ if that's what you're looking for:
https://www.google.com/search?q=app...&sugexp=chrome,mod=3&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

You need to decide based on your preferences. If worth was universal then everyone would get it or no one would get it.

doesnt it come with one year free applecare?
Same answer as in the other thread you asked this question:

http://www.apple.com/support/products/iphone.html
Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone1 and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $49 service fee.2

1 year warranty != AppleCare+

Don't you guys have laws about warranty? It probably already comes with apple cares plus. You should look into it.

We get a 12 month warranty with all new goods brought in the UK by law. What's cool about Applecare+ is the accidental damage cover, its this element we can't get with this specific warranty.

It is possible to buy third party warranties to cover this type of thing though.

I wont be buying Applecare, heres why..

When my 18month old iphone 3GS developed a fault with the loudspeaker I took it into my local Apple store, expecting them to say "tough, buy a new one". Instead they just handed me a new (reconditioned??) replacement phone without question. Excellent service:)

When you submit an Apple Care claim...

Can you pay the price difference and upgrade phone or iPad?

Ahh ok.

Yup I definitely did I wish they had the + for my iPhone 4. It stopped charging once out of warranty and cost me $150. Now that I am upgrading and giving my husband mine until his upgrade comes I wish I could use the ac+ to get him a fresh one that hasn't been dropped in water/scratched.

I just stick with AT&T's insurance better considering they cover stolen phones as well. My last phone was stolen and I was so glad I had insurance.

Nope I think it's a rip off, and apple has good bets a great majority will never use it...piece of mind maybe, but not for me

I went with the Applecare+. But I also decided to "future proof" the phone as much as possible, getting the 64MB model. Seems that there are fewer features "missing" than previous. My iPhone 4, other than some speakerphone issues, still has plenty of life, with the main thing missing vs newer models are "artificial" features that Apple could have included (Siri, 3D map). No game changers since then.

I also bought a more robust case because I HOPE I can go longer than 2 years this time :)

The 4 held up better than my 3G, which is hardly usable anymore for other than very apps and voice. I used that for a week or so after giving my 4 to my brother in law.

Seems to me that the major areas of competition in phone hardware are LTE, and ever larger screens. The 4+" screen of my test Android phone is right at the edge of largeness (and the S3 seems like it is TOO big to me).

With the history of the 3GS and 4, Apple seems to be planning to actively sell a phone for 3 years, so hopefully I can use it for 3 years.

It's more like $99 for one year since the first year is covered.

I'll always take the chance and just take care of my phone. I had my iPhone 4 since June 2010 and it was like new when I sold it so I made around $200 by not buying extended warranties.

Oh heck yeah I will be getting Apple Care +
I have had Apple Care from word go. I had my 3G replaced 3 times for hardware issues and my 4 replaced once

My husband is planning on getting a 4s after having a flip phone. This is a big step because he is a cabinetmaker and always was concerned about the dust and such. I bought him the lifeproof case but think that the applecare + would probably be a good idea as the phone will be around dust, elements, etc.

I just hope the case works as it should..he is going to do the test so if God forbid it got wet at least the applecare + would cover it.

Is anyone else in the "wood" field and what would you suggest?
