I would love retina, but if it's not included then that won't affect my buying decision. I've been waiting on a smaller iPad and I'm not going to pass it up just because I want a better screen.

As it is, the PPI will be better than the iPad 2. I would also prefer a 1024x768 screen that will run apps just fine than an in-between resolution that developers will have to change apps for.

Just a quick reminder to those who think that 1024x768 would make the mini "almost retina":
If that really is the case, it will have 163 ppi, exactly like the iPhone EDGE, or 3G, or 3GS.
Not even remotely close to retina.

When it comes to tablets and phones, I'd think a subpar resolution would look subpar at any size. But that's just me.

Yes, we know it will be the same as 3GS - but the point is Apple assume that a tablet is held further away from the eyes than a phone. So 163 on an iPad would be "better" than 163 on a phone. But yes, it still won't be near "retina".

If retina, I'll probably buy at some point down the line for myself, and maybe for mum for christmas depending on price (might end up being a fire HD)

If not retina I'll probably buy for mum if the price reflects it (read "cheap") and not for myself (potentially a full sized ipad even further down the line!)

Unless it's light as a feather, I wouldn't buy it at $249, $299, or $329. At $199 I'd maybe give it some thought but it wouldn't be an automatic buy.

The Nexus 7 weighs 12 oz. If you can't hold 12oz (or a similar weight for the iPad mini), then I think someone needs to start lifting weights and hit the gym. ;)

That....doesn't sound right.

Who said anything about the Nexus 7? Also don't recall saying anything about 12oz being heavy. I'm looking to be impressed. If the ipad mini is not going to include a retina screen the only thing left that could wow me are looks and a weight that is close to that of an e-ink ereader.

Yes, I want something a lil bit more light weight and smaller for my kids. But I would have been nice if it did come with a Retina display, I'm sure for the next one there will be.
