Not turning it on. I have no need for it. My phone sits in the car for 8+ hours a day while I’m at work. I have no need for the screen to be on while my phone sits in the pocket of my car door.
Lay it face down or put it in a pocket in your car. The display won’t stay on but you will still have the benefit of the AOD when you are off.

I love this feature on my watch but my phone is almost always in my pocket but I’m certainly eager to try it out I only hope when I put it on the charger at night that the screen goes off until the next morning, perhaps there’s a way we can work this into focus settings.

Surely there's no point in having the phone turned on at all whilst it's inside your car?!
No there isn't - but imo it's a hassle to turn it off and on everyday - possibly multiple times a day. Occasionally some of us do run out to our cars to make a phone call or check something (cube farm city doesn't bode well for private calls) in the middle of the day.

Where my job is I have zero concerns about someone breaking into the car to steal something - the pocket of the door helps keep it out of direct sun and a little less heat.

No desire for AOD even when I'm off. I've got no problem taking the two seconds to hit the display with my finger. And if my phone isn't near me - then I'm probably busy anyways and whatever it is can wait.

Would be nice if AoD can be tied to Focus modes.

I can see myself keeping it on during work times, but not so much during personal or off-hours.

Hell no. I wouldn't go back to a watch without AOD. Looking forward to having my phone next to me on my desk with glanceable info always on it.

It would be nice if they would allow Siri to enable it and disable it with a simple command. This would work good for some of the instances people have talked about in this thread.

I’m in the keep it on camp. Not worried about the battery drain, and will find it useful to quick glance for notifications while on the wireless charger at my desk. I usually have music playing and my phone on silent, so will save me the ‘reach over and tap’ action to see if the girlfriend has sent me a message 😆
Mine sits on my desk all day. I'll be using it. I hate having to wake it up all the time.

It is never turning off again.

Always On Display is extremely important to me, and changed my already excellent Apple Watch experience into an extraordinary one.

I can’t wait to experience AOD on a smartphone the correct way, with no compromises, the Apple way.

I've already turned it off. I found it quite annoying, surprisingly.

I like it on the watch though.

For me, this will be most useful. My phone sits on my desk much more than in my pocket every day. I either work on the computer next to it, or pass by the phone many times. Now I don't have to tap on it for what feels like a hundred times a day just to check if there is a message or if I missed a call. And in other situations, I might no longer have to tilt the phone up just to wake the phone to check the time.
I was thinking the same thing -- to be able to cut down on the taps will be great! But unless I'm missing something I don't see how missed texts or phone calls will be displayed. They don't have widgets. Will a text notification "bubble" appear and stay visible in always on display?

I got my iPhone 14 Pro in Australia this morning and had a look. I can’t see how to tie AOD to focus modes but can confirm that if you’re in the Sleep focus mode the AOD is off.

Will see. It's always worth spending some time with something new, and making the best of it, before grunting and growling "new changes bad!" That later thing gets a lot of people into frustrating places with operating systems and software as changes are made and someone decides to try and hold out.

I think it's going to be strange at first. Anxious moments where I think my battery life is whiling away, or that I messed up my screen display settings, etc. And I'm not immediately sure how practical it is. On the other hand, I'm thinking most problems can be reasonably solved given the new Lock Screen customizability. So I'll just leave it on and see how it settles with me over some weeks.

Honestly I don’t like that it still shows the wallpaper. If it was just the clock and maybe the widgets, fine, but I don’t really want the wallpaper showing.

Set a shortcut to run when phone is locked the wallpaper is set to black and when phone is unlocked it changes back to your wallpaper?

I would turn it off. I’m one of those weirdos who always has my phone screen down when doing something to not get distracted. I can think of 0% utility for AOD and it’ll be a battery burner.

Leaving it on. I don't wear a watch on the weekends, so it'll be handy to be able to see the time on the phone without picking it up.

First day with the always-on display and I see a very minimal impact on battery, so I will not disable it because of battery issues. The always on display feels strange, but I will keep it on for the moment and see if I will get used to it. Having an always on display can be very useful. We will see though.
