Well...

Just ignore the thread if it doesn't interest you. Why even bother posting in it? It's quite simple and easy.

1. I was curious to see if anyone had any useful suggestions toward solving issues people have with lack of RAM,
2. The thread keeps popping up on my front page,
3. To better understand why the hell this is a problem when I inevitably handle related questions when I do tech support.

I sense some high quality hash in here!

Well my computer has Skype, so it acts as a phone. Not wrong here.

Then again, we have those HP DragonHawk servers with almost TB of memory alone. Who needs SSDs

----------

The discussion is about RAM, not flash storage. There's a difference.

I was talking about RAM. You can run Skype or other "phone" apps on a computer. Hence why I said 32GB of memory. ;)

1. There are no useful suggestions for lack of RAM issue. Only if Apple decides to get their coding hands out of their big arse, we can have better software optimisations and problem is alleviated a bit.
2. It's a hot topic and it will be alive till all iDevices get 2 GB RAM.
3. This is a combination of a) lack of RAM and b) poor software optimisation. See my point one again. You cannot do much for tech support.

This thread and this subforum are about iOS devices, not computers. Your computer is not a phone. As I said before, there are no phones with 32GB of RAM.

You still don't get the satire don't you ;)

A few people are persistent complainers suggesting that the device is useless with current ram. Once 2GB is coming they'll say you need 4GB, once 4GB and so on. It never stops, it is a ridiculous straw men, and it is all about memory and in the context of this thread most obviously about RAM.

Not blindly defending apple.

So in other words, don't complain, just shut up and put up with it? This is a forum on a tech website dedicated to Apple to discuss issues like just this one. You are adding nothing to this discussion. Stop blindly defending Apple. This is a real problem for many people. And no, switching to an Android tablet with 64GB RAM, octa core processors, and 21 MP pixels cameras is not an option because I am all in inside the Apple ecosystem.

I'm not blindly defending apple I freely admit that for some people this device is not what they want that is fair enough, but it is also fair to point out that you don't have to buy apple products and alternatives are available. You have chosen to be in apples ecosystem, if they don't provide what you need then you'll have to consider alternatives.

Personally I feel that if you need 20 tabs open on your tablet then you should probably be using a laptop using the right tool for the job is as much your responsibility as is choosing the right product and ecosystem and researching what you buy.

In short if you have bought the wrong tool for the job that is your look out.

Unless it is being given to me or to be put into my Apple collection, no. 1GB of RAM seemed to cut it on the 32-bit ARM instructions but not with 64-but ARM instructions. 2GB of RAM in my Air 2 has fixed all the complaining I have had over the past year or two with Safari tab reloading. I have yet to run into Safari having to reload tabs even when I multitask over to another app and return to it, something I could only dream about doing on my mini 1, mini 2 or even my 6 Plus.

There will still be complaints in 2 years when even 2 GB RAM would seem inadequate due to complexities in iOS software and demanding apps.

This would go on till all mobiles reach 8 GB RAM just like PCs of today. We don't hear about lack of RAM stories on PC these days as it is assumed that most modern PCs have 4-8 GB of RAM.

It's not about satire. It's about Apple being cheap just to add 1 GB aditional memory. Worse is the attitude of fanboys on macrumors. They will gladly oblige if Apple puts Anal probe as purchase requirement along with full price of their product.

The comments made in this thread were most definitely about satire. I know it since I made one of those comments ;)

How is my computer not a phone when it has an application to talk, video chat, etc just like the iPhone. It also has a dedicated phone number.

^^ This.

At least with PCs, if you have inadequate amount of system RAM, you can always add more. Here, you're stuck with what Apple gives you. Between not having enough system RAM and ios keeps getting more resource intensive, something's gotta give, and it may be just giving up on iOS altogether for some, or just not being able to do everything you'd like to.

I hear Lollipop (android 4.5) has been optimized to work on devices with less RAM. I'd like to see that with iOS.

The Touch 6 will most likely have an A7 with 1GB of RAM and I will buy it the day it comes out :D.

It's about Apple being cheap just to add 1 GB aditional memory.

People keep forgetting that Apple is a business and that it's goal is to earn money. How much will it cost to go to 2GB of RAM ? Even if it's $2.00, it comes to 120 million dollars for 60 million phones sold.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm sure they're well aware of that.

And Apple needs to remember that if they 'cheap out' on some of the quality and specifications, they stand to lose customers, which can negate any savings they had in terms of sales, ad revenues, and further cuts when people pay $$ for apps, IAP, and multimedia done through AppStore and ITunes.. Is it worth holding on to the IpT crowd? Maybe, and that's a business decision they'll have to make. If the improvements to the next IpT will be even half as lackluster as the ones from Ipad Mini 2 to Ipad Mini 3, then so will end my IpT purchases that began with the IpT3.
