Does that matter to you, like do you actually base your purchasing decisions on that?

I couldn't care less what sells less or more... Perhaps only to the extent that it affects usability. For example, no one develops apps for defunct or dying ecosystems.

It is unlikely that iOS would fall to that position in the foreseeable future.

Doesn’t matter to me in the slightest. Did you read the post I was replying to?

Are you sure you're replying to me? I think you mean the OP

Does the Note 10 suddenly run iOS? Does it not stomp all over my privacy? Does it have iMessage?

Absolutely not, what a question to ask. It's like asking a person with a 60-mile daily commute if they're considering rollerblades instead of a car this time because some company just came out with rollerblades.

I tried the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and it looks really good. Then I tried the iPhone XS Max after that and the iPhone really looks cheap and old. Especially the very big bezel and the notch is really bad.

So let's see what the iPhone 11 will look like. But based on the leaks, it is even worse than the current iPhone XS Max with the ugly camera.

But I won't give Samsung my money after removing the headphone jack (really Samsung, it was so easy to get my money, but then you messed up). I will just keep using my iPhone X.

How well does FaceID work on the Note 10?

The Note's screen looks great to me, especially the way it curves over the edge. However, it also leads to a lot of unintended touches.

Obviously we all have different tastes, but personally as a person who is pretty detail oriented, Samsung's metalwork (its fit and finish, details) is terrible compared to the XS/Max. Not to mention inconsistent. Apple's coatings, like the oleophobic and antireflective coatings are much better too. How it feels and looks up close matters more to me than the lack of a notch.

It's probably a good idea to let the headphone jack go. It won't be coming back.

If you would have asked me this question 2 years ago, no questions the note10.
Now when google is tracking basically everything you do, iOS is the one that makes sense in terms of privacy.

Here's a good example of what i mean:

ps. In some of Samsung phones you cannot uninstall pre-installed Facebook app, via "normal" way. (I rooted my Note8 to remove that crap). This is the kind of **** i'm talking here.

You make it sound like FaceID is any good? I really do not like it on my iPhone X and I prefer the older Touch ID.

So I am willing to try Samsung their finger sensor under the display.
I wouldn’t be prepared to go back to a fingerprint reader.

I am really suprised how much love there is for FaceID when it is step backwards from touch ID. It performs worse than touch ID and you get a notch also.

Daily I have type in my pass code because faceID went wrong. It is also slower than touchID to unlock. And when I have my sunglasses on, it is doesn’t even work.

Samsung is on the right track which is hiding the fingerprint sensor below the screen. Apple should have done the same thing from the very beginning and ditched the notch.

When I have to unlock my touchid iPad it cements how much better faceid is. I like that I get extra screen space on my iPhone X.

Samsung will eventually have faceid when android supports it. Fingerprint sensors will be gone entirely at that point.

The touch id of my iPad Pro (2nd gen) blows away face ID on my iPhone, it is not even on the same level.

It unlocks so fast, that there is no difference between have touch ID on or off. And it always works, never does it ask for my passcode.

TouchID under the screen without the notch is the way forward. If Apple doesn’t do it and keeps this crappy FaceID with the notch, then Apple will receive no money from me.

Android phones tried the notch and they removing it so they are on the right track.

that's funny i'm pretty sure my mate20 pro supports both faceid and in screen fingerprint scanner. actually, my mate20 pro faceid is much faster than the iphone X. and i have a choice of using either one or both.

I have to input the passcode on my iPad so much more frequently than I have to on my iPhone because touchID isn't as good as faceid.

FaceID is the way forward. Once Android supports faceId you will see it appearing on more Android devices.

Huawei added support themselves but it isn't supported by the underlying OS. Once support is added to the underlying OS we will see more manufacturers add faceid and move away from touchid.

Definitely not, Samsung software still has issues with lagging and being buggy
it's far from perfect but it doesn't lag anymore...

Note 10 plus might be the best overall smart phone out there but won't tick all the boxes for everybody

I think the best overall phone would need to run iOS.

It’s a tough one as if the iphone 11 camera isn’t as good as the latest note plus then in terms of well rounded it would be behind the note 10 plus as feature wise and with the S pen the note would have more features. IOS software is a big draw with many including me but I guess it depends what you want out of your phone and work productivity you use It for.

not sure why you think it need to run a closed os. AOSP would be much better since it is open to with as you wish. it's like comparing the intranet to the internet. and we all know how that turned out. and explains why android dominance is so high when compared to ios. sure you still have people using AOL but way more people use the internet. same goes for ios vs android.

Curious trolling but it’s been a while since every thread started to dissolve into iPhone vs android so..

The Mate20’s face unlock is not nearly as secure as faceid. If you’re ok with that then great, however I wouldn’t unilaterally tout it as being ‘better’. In many reviews the reviewer actually said they would have preferred a rear sensor due to the small focus area, lack of tactile feedback and general sluggishness of the in display sensor. It is great that they give you both options, if Apple introduces this it will likely have a wide focus area and great tactile feedback when unlocking.

And are you really suggesting that sales of android phones is due to its open nature? Not the fact that they sell phones as low as like $50...?

Great that you love your Mate 20. Doesn’t make anybody else’s choice of iPhone ‘wrong’ or ‘worse’.

My first and last experience with Android was a Nexus tablet in 2012.
No issues with the device when it was new, but progressive updates made it impossibly slow, then it just quit working altogether one day.

No reliability issues with iOS products. Nearly 5 years with iPad Mini 2, and 3 years with my iPhone SE. So no, I won't be buying a Samsung or Android anything. I will stick with iOS products indefinitely. Next phone will probably be the current iPhone XS.

I’m with you on this. I was running my SE since launch, bought at Walmart. I actually still have them both in use. I bought a iPhone 7 128GB for around $226 on eBay new. It is a worthy upgrade. I’ve been running this new iPhone 7 since Thursday. I love it.

I’m not sure what ‘closed’ vs ‘open’ has to do with it. I just think you should use the best OS, which is currently iOS.

I’ve been tempted by Samsung devices before. They only last a couple of weeks before going back. Love certain things about them (including the gorgeous hardware).

But at the end of the day iOS just works for me. I’ll read reviews and watch videos on the Note 10, but I’ll sit this one out and save myself time returning it.

It's brand new, they are fine out of the box. Give it a few months. I had the Note 8 and S9 both got buggy. I am done with Samsung
