What's a concession line?

A special plan that can be given to employees and agents of a cellular carrier. In my case, from Verizon.

I won't lie, it has its perks but it also has its disadvantages. I cannot do ESN changes myself, but email a special accounts group that can make changes. I also cannot activate high demand devices (iPhone) until consumer demand calms down. For example, while the iPhone 4 did not sell all that well at launch, I still couldn't activate one for a little over a month after launch. I anticipate the iPhone 5 to be even longer than that (through holiday season). The only thing that benefits from this is my wallet lol..

All depends.

1) Whether I can sell my iP4 to fund about £300 of my new purchase

2) The new iPhone itself. Sure, specs are nice, but what I really want is new features.

I will probably get one anyway even if it's a minor upgrade. I am hoping to sell my unlocked iPhone 4 for £300-400 to pay towards part of the cost. I would li,e to get the new one unlocked and sim free too rather then on contract.

I'm assuming 32GB, as that's what's in your sig?
Anyway, what do you think's realistic for a 16GB? I'm hoping for £300 but that may be a stretch.

A couple did go on eBay today for ~£320.

Unlocked BTW.

My iPhone is under 6 months old so I don't think I'll be willing to pay the non contract price for this model. My wife is probably due one herself but I don't think the's anxious to upgrade at this point either. If the update is minor neither one of us sees spending the money. When an LTE based iPhone hits the streets that will be different but for now I think we'll stand pat.

Yes I have a 32GB model. I haven't checked prices on eBay or anywhere else yet so I'm just guessing. I think the maximum for a 16GB in mint condition would probably be around £300. It would be better to sell it before the new one comes out as the value will probably drop a bit after. I sold both my 3 and 3GS for £350 to a work colleague. She also wants to buy my iPhone 4 but I don't think she will be prepared to pay £400 for it. Obviously the cost of an unlocked model of the new one will also have a bearing on how much I will be looking for for the iPhone 4.

Its amazing that a faster processor, double the ram, better camera is just considered a "minor" spec bump.

In previous years, it wouldn't have been, but have you seen the competition nowadays? There are dozens of dual-core Android phones, with screens ranging from 3.7 to 4.5", (not to mention the phone/tablet Note...not that I want that). They're not low-res screens either...some are now 720p. The Nexus Prime will likely be absolutely incredible. If Apple wants to continue to compete, they need to be the market leader...not the 'hey it's good enough' company with really good software.

I love my iPhone 4, and I have no plans to jump ship to Android, but I have to be honest, if we don't get a screen size bump, I'll be disappointed. Probably not disappointed enough to switch to Android, but let's face it: Android has more features and is catching up in design and usability with each iteration. Eventually they will catch up on the software side, and when they do, if Apple hasn't kept pace in the features/hardware area, there will be LOADS of people who will switch. And if they fall too far behind over the next few years, I will likely be one of them.

but if you take it in relation to apple's competitors then I think it might be more of a minor update. More and more phones are coming out with bigger displays, or LTE, etc.

Unless you expect to wait well into 2012 the price will not be dropping.

I will be getting it minute one.

I always wait. I never really grab the first, release-day waves of new apple product mainly because i kind of felt that you were basically being a beta tester for them. Like the screens on the old old ipod Nano. Maybe Ive just had bad luck.

Tough question to answer considering none of us have even seen the phone.

I have a feeling many will be disappointed this time around.

My contract is up in November, so if the iPhone 5 is out in October, I'll pay the early upgrade fee (which wont be much) and get the iPhone 5 on launch day at a reduced price due to getting it on an 18 month contract.

I'll probably go for the 32 GB version this time. From getting the 3GS in 2009, I've always got the 16 GB, but I'm getting to the point where I only have around 2 GB free, and with adding music, apps, podcasts etc over the duration I would have the iPhone 5, I don't want to be in the position of running out of space. I would sooner pay the extra for the 32 GB version and be more than enough covered.

It depends on AT&T. Last time they let me buy the iPhone with early pricing even though I was 4 months away from my eligibility. This time my eligibility is in February.

Awwww, who am I kidding?

I'll get it when it launches!!

Early adopters bleed the best!

As much as I would like to make this line in the sand saying "I'll only get the iPhone 5 if it is a nicely designed phone with 64 GB storage, available in white, on Sprint"..... I'm preordering and camping as long as it hits Sprint. I've tried all the competition, I'm ready for my iPhone.

I want to get the iPhone 5 on launch day, right after I'm done with school. I think my friend has a friend who works at an Apple Store, so I'm hoping that I can get one reserved for me.

If I decide to but the next iPhone, I'll get it ASAP. My contract is out so my old 3GS can be given as a hand-me-down to my kid. I wish UK Orange would allow pre-ordering....

I think I'll wait for iPhone 6.
Just bought an iPhone 4 3 months ago.
Hope Apple will release iPhone in China in the very beginning, so we don't have to buy an old iPhone always.

Apparently I'm not eligible for upgrade until March? Did AT&T remove the early upgrade fee? Will they offer a discount for iPhone 4 users upgrading to the 5?
