Windowing, Menu Bar, and Pointer Come to iPadOS

I was truly shocked when I saw this screenshot of ipad pop up on the live stream with the red/yellow/green bubbles

Lucky for you, as they clearly showed, you can continue to use the iPad the same way you used it before.

This was the only thing I liked out of this whole keynote.

Expectations: Frosted backgrounds that were like visionOS
Reality: Backgrounds that are too transparent

Makes me think they are pushing for the iPad to replace the MacBook. I certainly hope this is not the case.

That’s pretty much what it appears to be. It’s not a replacement for the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, but with these updates, an iPad can more effectively be a MacBook without Apple having to reintroduce those.

Read that they are adding support for import and exporting in Notes to a markdown file. That is great! I hope it will also be possible to format while typing using markdown.

Amazing updates! Finally I can use my 5g enabled iPad pro M4 more and more like a Mac! I’m hoping more developers allow multiple instances of their app now that multi-window support is more robust, ie parallels client that use for work.

I'm sure those useless features didn't cost Apple a million engineering hours and this iPadOS update is still a "gigantic release" for me.

This is a really interesting development. Does this portend MacOS apps running on iPad OS soon? That seems to be the only reason to make a change like this. A big obstacle to doing so was the lack of precision of a pointer within a tablet interface. Now that they've incorporated a precise pointer into iPadOS, there's one less key reason to not merge the two.

Best update of the entire keynote, this is huge! Now I kinda wish I hadn't invested in a Mac earlier this year, feel like this could get me back to using exclusively an iPad. We'll see how seamless the experience is though!

Yea I just bought a surface pro 11 w 5g which works great for work for me but I maybe should have waited since I also have the iPad Pro M4 which I may have been able to use more like a laptop now.

Very slowly. Maybe. What about installing apps from outside of the App Store? I have numerous apps in my workflow that run on Apple Silicon but are not available through the App Store.

Didn’t really see a desktop per se, more of an enhanced stage manager, wich is really all it is needed on an iPad.

Well, this is an update i have been waiting for. Now the Two Question not answered today:

1) Multiple Audio Stream
2) Virtual Memory

the first one is obvious, but the second one is important for Photo Editing because this is the main reading why “Denoise” Apps lie DXO or Topaz are missing for iPad or in Lightroom…. will this now be possible so we can have the most important features lacking for Lightroom?
