I am using Windows 11 and I like the new interface. However, I also feel that Microsoft rushed Windows 11 to the market and it is pretty much an unfinished product. I am not sure why Microsoft decided to release it in such a short period of time (perhaps for security reasons, as Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0).

The problem is that Windows 11 is getting a bad reputation.
Deservedly so. I initially had a favorable attitude toward Win 11. But that quickly changed after using it for an extended period of time. All of the changes seemed to be for the sake of change and didn't offer better ways of interacting with the system.... different, yes... better, no.

It has been over 9 years since the release of Windows 8 and the move away from its traditional UI and it still hasn't fully switched. That's inexcusable. Everything about Win 11 UI is less dense, more whitespace, less content. That's great for touch interaction, but terrible for productivity.

It’s also only that. Some rounded corners and a new taskbar that’s buggy and missing a lot of features.

Windows 11 is an update not worth the major version bump, Windows 11 should have been something new.

Is anyone else annoyed how they tried to make Windows appear human? Those cringy welcome quotes "Hi. We got some new things for you." and so on? I'm really getting sick of how most modern OS treats users like idiots and it's getting worse.

"All your files are exactly where you left them"

WHY would you say that unless something went wrong?!

Seriously?! Is a progress bar too complicated?! Or a hard drive access light? Is this a 'go to the bathroom and come back' problem or a 'go shopping for an hour and pray it's back' kinda problem?

I like the new Start menu and the overall redesign. But the right-click menu has fewer options. The possibility of running Android apps, which was a major advancement, is still yet to be released.

And there are bugs. I noticed a screen flickering on my desktop after upgrading. And a lot of processor usage even when the computer is idle.

Microsoft could have refined Windows 11 more before releasing it to the public. I simply cannot understand the hurry.

I still won't forget that oddball 'welcome' video they posted to YouTube. It was outright weird. Almost like that poor guy was being forced to talk it up. Windows 11 looks great oddly, but I still don't like that they haven't learned from the problems people had and voiced about Windows 10--such as, among others, FORCED UPDATES. I. Don't. Believe. In. Updates.

I noticed that too when I was setting up my new XPS 9510 a couple weeks ago. I pulled up the Task Manager, and Teams (which I loathe and never use) was constantly running in the background and sucking up a chunk of my system resources. After I disabled it, everything has been working as it should.

Well, updates are generally useful. For the majority of users, it is great that Microsoft provides these updates. And I frequently update Windows as soon as I can.

We know, we get it, you don't like updates. You've said this on a squillion different threads, you love your skeuomorphism etc etc.

But there is a difference between feature updates and security updates. If you don't update Windows you will end up with the buggiest, malware-ridden mess. You. Might. Not. Believe. In. Updates.

But. You. Should...sometimes. :)

Even with Linux you ought to update, just look at the log4j vulnerability. That issue, isn't a windows thing, or a mac thing, its a computer thing, where any application that leverages Apache's log4j logging system is exposed. Don't update your machine (regardless of OS), and you could be in deep weeds.

And...here we go with the FUD about security updates again. You know that smart browsing habits and not running any EXE you get (or *.DEB/RPM/etc) in an email and not visiting the Pirate Bay helps a lot more than the strongest antivirus right? I suppose you never had the unfortunate encounter with a system totally borked due to a windows 'update' yet. Many have, including myself. Or an unnecessary UI change that happens to come along with a 'security patch' and you have to tolerate and can't revert. Yea. That's why updates are the first thing I turn off right after I turn off apt and the Play Store (on Android). Once my system is where I like it, it's just enjoyed and left alone. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Or, to coin an even older sysadmin phrase, "Never touch a running system"

I'd say that Windows 11 is better than Windows 10 and runs very smoothly.
I'd say that Windows 11 is improved Windows 10.
I don't know if I'd say 11 is better than 10 yet, but it will get there.

I was in on the beta for Vista, and Windows 11 is NOT Vista! Halfway through, Vista was actually good, fast, multitasked well and performance was good on XP level machines. Then Microsoft did a reset on what they wanted and pushed the engineers way too hard. When it was released, it was the buggiest, ugliest, buggiest, slowest, buggiest PITA ever. Did I mention it was buggy and slow?

PC world condemned windows 11, deemed that a failure for Microsoft in 2021.
mainly because the OS was unnecessary due to the excellence of 10
i agreed, and converted back last month!
well me Dell XPS did

I'm getting tired or the useless windows suggestions and Edge begging me to charge and shop online.

If 11 is the new Vista, then I expect it to be good in 4 years, when it’s renamed “12”.

I upgraded to Windows 11 yesterday. It doesn't feel slower to me. It's just uglier… The system font is uglier, and when I boot up my PC there's a welcome sound. It's been off since Windows 10. Why turn it on back now?

Vista is the most beautiful Windows OS till this stay. Say what you want, but it was beautiful. Wallpapers and everything looked amazing. Same with Leopard.
Even Android 4 and iOS 6 looked better than the most recent android and iOS. I have just never liked the flat design. I''m sorry.

Been trying Win11 on my Surface Pro 6 i5. First time I upgraded but found the UI to be a bit sluggish in comparison to Win10. Downgraded to Win10 and was happy. Then got the itch to try again recently to see if any updates made it better and to try a clean install. Seems better but still a bit sluggish. May downgrade it again...

I kinda like the welcome sound. A little trivia here though. Windows 10 does have a startup sound if you want it, and it's the one from Vista! I really kinda wish Windows 11 WAS like Vista--I miss the UI of Vista. Totally easy on the eyes and fun to use. I know Microsoft is trying to ditch flat UI a tiny bit much like Apple lately, but it's not good enough. Let's have a real UI again!

The day I switched to MacOS I truly made a magnificent call. My 2012 mini, purchased in 2013, is running nicely. How many windows running pc's did you buy since 2013?

There is a funny story about 'Windows 12'. There's this company SELLING it and it's basically a slightly (and not very well) modified distro of Linux Lite. The website looks designed in 1996, and there's a couple of hilarious Michael MJD videos of it.

I've purchased new computers every 2 or 3 years regardless of it being a mac or PC. I've had a work PC for 7 years and it held up great, so longevity is not an exclusive to Macs.

imo, any 5 to 7 year old PC (or mac) is more then enough to handle the majority of computer user's needs today and tomorrow. I don't "need" to buy a new computer but I want too, and that's good enough for me. I'm looking forward to the 12th Gen intel processors and I plan on getting a new laptop once those mobile processors land.
