Even if you factor in only single CPU use, you'd have expected a 2.5Ghz G5 to make a difference but alas not - I felt my Quad was no faster with VPC than my Powerbook.
Having said that, Win 2000 and below, I've found very acceptable especially under OS9.
It comes down to the app. The app emulates a particular type of PC with a specific CPU. So, it's irrelevant how much power the host computer has.

Unfortunately, any development on VMs went to PC and Intel Mac once the Intel switch happened. We're stuck with what we have with VPC7.

very sad! I don't yet own a quad so I can't try this but, have you managed to tinker with the Q emulator? Maybe it will give better performance:

like this guy?

Are you sure about that? ;)

I've never come across any documentation for VPC stating what kind of CPU it was emulating - other than MMX capabilities.

Not on PowerPC Linux but I did try it under OSX - it was so slow I gave up before Windows was even installed!

Unless you specifically require it, I'd advise against using XP or above - especially on a 1Ghz PPC. If it's essential, I'd recommend Micro XP which is an extremely reduced version of XP - you can find it in the usual places, along with Win 2000/98SE/95 etc
As a rule of thumb, at best VPC delivers performance of a 200Mhz Pentium - not really ideal for XP.

After a long search, I found and installed MicroXP. Unfortunately, this is not a real alternative for me. My programs need at least NET Framework 4.0 and i can not install that on MicroXP :(

If I have more time, I will continue to work with MicroXP

Win 7 doesn't run worth a crap in VPC or qemu. It's been years since I've done it... But I don't remember it being a very pleasant experience. If I have to run windows on a PPC for some reason its either windows 2000 or server 2003.
