Thanks. Does anyone know if there's free virtual software for running windows on a mac?

That being said, why would you ever want to go back "just to try it out" (w/o needing apps)? OSX is fantastic.

OS X is wonderful, but any true geek(or average computer user actually) should want to try new products to make sure he or she is using the best one out there

7 is nice; I'll give it that.

However, I don't have any desire to try out new versions of Windows. New Linux distributions, yes. Windows, no.

Maybe I've just had enough of Windows.. I have been using it since I can remember.

I bought the 64 bit version, should I still download the ISO one? It says: Alternate download for clean installation (required for XP and Vista 32-bit users). The EXE one says: Save file DLMWin7HP64US.exe to your Desktop. After saving, run the file to install your new software.

If you have Windows (Vista or XP) currently installed on your Mac boot into it. If you can run the in-place upgrade run the EXE from the Windows side of your machine.

Otherwise, you will need to download the ISO and burn that to a DVD in order to do a clean install.

I don't think it is possible to do a clean install with the student-promo version. I couldn't, the support told me the license key was only good for an "upgrade".

So I ended up installing XP and then Win7 on top of it. I did have the actual DVD.

I did do a clean install.

I burned the files the EXE downloaded to a DVD. Therefore it created a boot disc. Then I used that disc to install Windows and went into Custom and did a reformat and clean install from there with previous Windows OS installed.

That is the basic version of what I did.

Although you could install Vista or something from a friend and as long as you dont activate it and run the other upgrade right away, you could do it this way too.

You can do a clean install by doing the upgrade, then install it again on top of the unregistered windows 7.

V Download Win7 Ultimate x64 by preferred method
V Buy 20$ serial on Ebay
V Activate both bootcamp and parallels

Nuff said...

I just tried downloading it. When I hit the download button TextEdit stuff just comes up. What should I do?

:D Brilliant! I feel dumb for not thinking of that

If you download the ISO you could do a clean install from a fresh boot camp partition from that.

Or download the EXE and wait until the installer pops up and copy those files to a disk and you get your own installer form there.

Wipe your bootcamp partition and create a new one and use your newly created W7 disk and do a Custom Install form there.

Or the aforementioned way works too!
