I see the Op's point in some parts. As always it comes back to what works for you, what suits you and so on.

Still to this day find it difficult to not want macOS given what I do most of the time. Windows works, but macOS was just better at some tasks.

Still on Windows but I will never say never with regards to returning one day.

After trying macOS 3 times, and losing money three times (mac is not big around here) I said NOPE. the M1 almost got me again, but I did my research. Found the graph was a joke. My xps 8940 and current dell inspiron 13 5000 2 in 1 with extra goodies are a much better solution for my work.

*laughs in World of Warcraft pegged at 60fps native resolution*

The fact that even WoW is so playable now vs previous devices is a big plus. I know a lot of people like myself who only play that casually for a bit of downtime. But you needed a PC until the M1, now it runs no problem. Had it on the M1 Mac Mini and ran very well.

And no one uses pages. Not one person.
I am a person, and I use Pages. And since you obviously don't use it, you probably don't realize that it's a streamlined word processor that works beautifully on a Mac. No, it doesn't have [arcane Office feature] and it doesn't have [cartoonish Word Art option]. But if you want to work on, you know, a document of text, it is quite good.

I guess my big question is, why are all these Windows people (god bless them) coming here to this highly Apple-specific website to spend time posting? There are a ton of products out there that I don't care for, but you don't see me trolling their user forums. Are you all hoping to win converts? Why do you possibly care?

Nope I am mac owner, I have 16" MacBook Pro. I am simply stating what I experienced with my mac.

Because some of us see value in more than just Apple and can discuss the wider availability of tech without limiting ourselves to just one option?

Because many have to use a mixed platform due to gaming or professional requirements and this section used to be a really valuable resource for windows and PC building information.
It was for me as a Mac, iPhone, iPad owner the best section of the forum for a good mature technical read.

Maybe because this is the 'Alternatives to Mac hardware' section of the forum?
There is also a forum about politics on MacRumors. Are you wondering why people discuss politics on an Apple-Specific website too?
Also, having a healthy discussion about the pro's and cons of Apple vs other hardware does not seem out of place or 'trolling' to me, especially on an Apple-centric website.

I am a Mac owner.:) I am just telling the truth, how it is. And also, that's offtopic.

MacRumors has many different forums, including a forum for discussing android phones, a non-mac computers, and various non-apple forums, like the community forum, Digital photography, audio, and design graphics etc.

Regarding this forum, it was created at the behest of other members who got tired of seeing PC type posts in the Mac hardware forum, so the administrators decided to create this forum. Members who want to discuss Macs, have their specific forums, and those who enjoy non-apple products are a place to talk. Many PC owners have iPhones/iPads and enjoy talking about those, but wish to have discussions, or help with their PCs.

The bottom line is, if you don't care about a particular topic, or hardware discussion, i.e., PCs then you're free to find other topics here that are more aligned to your liking. I personally don't go into the android forum and complain about why people are talking about androids.

Most in this forum use everything. It's not trolling, it's providing real world information instead of being a fan of just one product. I am not a Mac user, or do I like the platform, but I use iPhone and actually this is one of the more active "non apple" sections in any website now.

After using Mac OS for 19 years I am absolutely lost on Windows. I find Windows a mess and very difficult to navigate. Ditto comparing iOS to Android.

I also appreciate how easily my Apple devices sync together.

Mac is better on Laptops.
Windows is better on Desktops
That's my preference.

These are my reasons ...

Mac is better on Laptops.
Everyone has different needs and I get why Mac laptops are so popular but for me, windows laptops work better. There's a few reasons, i'll just drop that I have access to thousands of game titles on steam. With that said, I only play a handful of games but they're not available on the mac :)

Same with Xbox gamepass. I love that.

The mouse lags on Big Sur and there are times when the system animations on Big Sur just slow down and make the whole user experience not an enjoyable one.
Something is fishy here, maybe you have bad hardware... because no matter how "bad" the macOS release can be, in 20 years of releases, the mouse cursor never lags. Are you using the trackpad or an external mouse? I know external mouses can lag depending on the brand or bluetooth interference. Could be a driver issue or even the OS fault, but even then, changing mouse brands might solve the issue.

I'm on a mac 9-5 since I'm an iOS developer. And I like my iPhone.

And I prefer my PC. It boots in about 1/3 of the time, and when it's under load it manages to remain responsive and not sounding like a jet engine. These are things I can't claim macOS can do. iMessage integration is nice though.

Both my mac and PC are from 2018, with 16gb of RAM and an SSD. macOS, and OS X before it, have always been slow compared to Windows. Not enough where it's going to make me pick one over the other, but on like hardware Windows is always faster. And on the occasion it's not faster, just wait a few minutes for the macbook to overheat and the CPU to throttle ;)

Interesting, but this doesn't seem normal to me. Has it been a while since you did a clean install of macOS? Like 3 years ago I had been using the same volume for 7 years and it had gotten to the point where it was quite buggy. I finally did a clean installation and it fixed everything for me. I don't have time to read the whole thread right now so sorry if this has already been asked.

My findings are the same. My Macs would bog down sporadically. No rhyme or reason. My windows machines never slow down. Everything is still responsive. My notebook is not a powerhouse but when I was doing a 4k rip, the fan was screaming but it was still just as fast as ever. Meanwhile when doing a music session on GarageBand my Mac would become jumpy and stall.

Yes you read that title correct, I have been using the 16" MBP for over a year now. I noticed that Windows 10 is a lot smoother and faster than Big Sur. I keep AMD graphics always on Big Sur but even so Apps take a while to open where as on Windows(bootcamp) its instant. The mouse lags on Big Sur and there are times when the system animations on Big Sur just slow down and make the whole user experience not an enjoyable one. The NOTIFICATION CENTRE CRASH'S and when it happens you can't even see notifications or the calendar and I have to force quit the app to open it again.

I noticed with every update Apple breaks something and its just not as stable anymore. macOS is a BUG fest and slow compared to other OSs. Windows works on SO many devices and honestly its impressive that its compatible with a wide range of hardware.

All Apple have do is optimize and make sure its works with the MBA, MBP, iMac and Mac Pro. It can't even handle that. There are no drivers for the 6000 series AMD graphics from Apple yet and it just shows Apple's neglect towards macOS.

macOS is not the "World's Most Advanced Operating System" as Apple calls it, no in fact it worse than Linux and Windows.

Moving on to the little things that are very ANNOYING to me:

Finder is slow and VERY unintuitive compared to File Explorer. Quick Look is the one thing I like about Finder.
But I recently found out you can get Quick Look on Windows using a third party app and it works great. The whole commands/shortcuts DON'T make sense on mac. Finder is the main culprit, opening a file is cmd+O. You can't even use enter to open the file without installing a app and that process is tedious. You have to disable SiP for it work. The "xtraFinder" app is buggy and not as smooth as Finder itself. The whole CUT,COPY and PASTE thing is very annoying. Seriously, how hard is it add CUT as option in finder.
IMO File Explorer is MUCH better than Finder, and OH yeah you can REFRESH files on Windows WAY easier than Finder and you can also QUIT File Explorer and see items/files on your desktop. I don't why Apple does not allow users to quit finder but this may do with the fact that you IF do quit Finder using a third party app, the items on your Desktop disappear because that's how macOS functions.

These sort things are not there on Windows and Linux.

The shortcuts also relate to MS Office products and browsers. For example cmd+R to refresh a browser but on Windows a simple F5.

Honestly there are many more issues with macOS, no Vulkan support, no lastest openGL support and you are paying more for LESS.
The game library is so bad that Linux has more games to play.

Oh and with the M1 Macs becoming more closed and not using standard PC parts is more of a reason to stay away from ARM Macs (Also the VERY limited App support) and macOS on M1 is even more appalling. I have seen people on this very forum with SSD writing issues that are already on 16TBW and above. While my Intel 16" has only 7TBW and I brought this in January 2020 and I have used it almost everyday. The M1 macs use more swap memory than their intel counterparts shows that the ARM architecture is not ready on desktop operating systems yet. Software was limited when macOS was on Intel/x86 and on ARM it will be even more so limited.

There is no reason to buys Macs anymore IMO, Windows has come to the point it IS superior than macOS in EVERYWAY.
It's better for gaming, productivity(school work, video rendering/editing, music production and 3d work) and enterprise/business.

PLUS there are apps available like SolidWorks and autoCAD with the full tools sets.

I would like to conclude by saying this 16" MBP will be my last Apple computer and a nice premium Windows/Linux laptop/PC will on list next with Intel/AMD/Nvidia inside.

I can attest to this phenomenon, as well. I run software that has both a Mac and a Windows version, and noticed that majority output better performance with the Windows version.

It sounds like the OP has many reasons for which they prefer Windows, and there is nothing wrong with that.

I feel the same way about MacOS. I like to play around with Windows from time to time, but I can never use it like I use a Mac. One of the most annoying things to me in Windows is window management. In MacOS, I frequently use Command + Tab to switch between open applications, and Command + ` to cycle between windows in a given app (most frequently, the tens of browser windows I have open). In Windows, Alt+Tab includes all open windows, and there is no keyboard shortcut to cycle between windows only in the application in use. Would a Windows user find the same things frustrating coming from Windows to MacOS? Very possibly. Different operating systems frequently have different ways of doing things, and one gets used to them.

Until I was nearly 10 years old, I had only ever used Windows PC's. Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. That's what my parents had, that's what my elementary school had, and I didn't know that anything else existed. I remember what I believe to be the first time I ever used a Mac. I was at a friend of a friend's house, and they had what was either a late-model iMac G5 or one of the first Intel iMacs. I thought it was so cool, and I had a lot of fun playing around with Photo Booth. After that, I was part of a study at a local university, and I noticed there were Macs everywhere. Eventually, I went to the Apple Store with my dad, who bought me a late-2007 2.2GHz white MacBook. Since then, I have used Windows only sparingly, and it just isn't intuitive to me at all. Sure, I can use it, but it just isn't as "user-friendly" as a Mac.

I now use both Windows 10 and Mojave now on 2 separate laptops and sometime i forget which system i am using
until i see the silver Macbook or the carbon fiber on the Dell XPS.
if i was blindfolded and needed to know, i would simply play a music album from the Bose app to tell the difference.
they both have their slight differences, but surprisingly similar functions, response, actions and results in many ways!
