Windows (maybe) damages speakers on new MBP

Well, it happened to me and Apple has set me up with a priority appointment today at a local Genius Bar.

They wouldn't tell me over the chat whether it's a repair or a replacement or if I'd be out of a MacBook for some time or not. Now I'm worried about getting one with a faulty Pro 460, because this one has been amazing and I've pushed it hard.

What a total **** up that software that's considered final can handily ruin a piece of hardware in seconds. Wish me luck, I guess.

Welp, I got the entire machine replaced today. I'm home for the holidays in Massachusetts and the store I went to never had heard of the issue, but Apple's official support doc (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207410) led them to an internal note which in big, bold red letters says "Replace whole unit". Thankfully they somehow had my 2.9/1TB/460 config in stock, so it was easy. They said they've received their tools and the SSD logic board access dock but haven't been trained on it and don't have replacement parts in yet, so most issues are full engineering captures with a new notebook being given to the customer. The Genius was awesome and let me keep the brick and USB-C charge cable out of the new one as a consolation, and since I had to return/rebuy a retail unit, I saved $100 in tax vs. my previous California purchase.

So yeah, if you've put Windows on and ran into an awful sound coming out of one or both speakers before receiving the driver update, your speakers are likely blown and you need a new MacBook. Play some music, and then pan it left/right in the system prefs - one side on mine was completely inaudible save for some crackles and pops.
