Yeah oddly enough the most glitchy thing I've run into has been the new start menu. Sometimes when you press the Start button, it doesn't come up for me right away and I have to press it a few times. I was considering putting Windows 10 on a 2-in-1 tablet PC but now I don't think I will for another few months. I'll continue updating it and monitoring the progress on the VM until I feel that it's stable enough.

The Start menu works well for me. The biggest glitch I am experiencing is that the recycle bin won't empty and it takes many seconds for the confirmation dialog to come up after right-clicking it and telling it to empty.

Plus the 2560x1440 resolution is absent from the latest build so I had to go way down in resolution to fill up the 27" iMac screen.

I'm thinking in a few months the OS should be pretty much good to go. Should be anyway, considering the public release is supposed to be in the fall.

Yeah, overall I think it's quite stable and not too shabby to work with. i'm looking forward to the final public release.

I repartitioned the storage on my Surface Pro 3 and I have Win10 running. The icons seem decidedly old school. Kind of funny :)

I have the free technical preview of Excel running that seems decent those kind of thin feature wise.

So far things are very stable (for a technical preview), though I have had IE crash on my a couple of times.

I'm a little tempted to install win10 over my win8.1 installation just for the simple fact, there's too much work to install/configure all my apps in my win10 partition. Some of which I may not be able to do, i.e., Adobe CS thanks to the licensing restrictions. Since I have a solid backup system and a recovery partition, I won't really be risking too much.

I'll try to play with it win10 a little more before going that route.

If you install Windows 10 over your 8.1 install, what happens when the TP runs out before the public release?

The intention is that you can upgrade the preview to the RTM version according to Gabe Aul from the MS OS team (https://twitter.com/gabeaul/status/540579810880147457). Assuming you had a licensed version 8.1 to begin with of course.

I backed up my 8.1 in October and upgraded and have upgraded through all the subsequent builds. Hopefully I'll not have to restore back. Everything works fine for me (except for virtualbox for which I needed to download an older version as the current hardened version will not run on 10 yet).

Edit: the current build seems a bit slower to me than previous ones (I am running on 2007 MBP Core2Duo with 3GB Ram). Not sure why this is yet - perhaps it will settle down.

The expiration date is usually set so far into the future its not a problem. On prior releases, when the Gold version was delayed they issued an update just to push the clock forward.

Besides, I still have the recovery partition, so it's easy to just install the OS over again.

how to disable updates?

I have upgraded my Win 8.1 to Win 10, and it working great so far, untill I decided to search for updates. It found a few, and a grafik driver, among others. Problem, Efi bootcamp has sometimes problems with my iMac 12,2 and an older Efi 1,7; would have deselected this driver, but I can only choose automatic updates! At least it killed my working system, because I couldn't prevent all updates! So, beware of Win 10, if you have an older Mac! Errors at startup, and Win couldn't repair it! Any solution for choosing manually updates, thx?

Its tough not to do automatic updates, because you want the new builds that MS rolls out. Though on occasion it may make the system less stable.

thx!

thank you very much for your link! Yes, usually, it's ok with auto updates, except crashing bootcamp partitions ;-)!

missing native resolution

I have the same problem as SandboxGeneral, only 1920x1200 available. Why than do I get the full resolution, when I have upgraded my Win 8.1 to Win 10, I don't get it!? Ok, it's a Beta, but without native resolution, Win 10 is useless for me! Note, we have the year 2015, and not 1899 ;-)! Hey Microsoft, hurry up with i m p o r t a n t Updates!

I just downloaded and installed a fresh copy of Windows 10, Build 9926, and put it into the VM on my cMBP. The resolution of 1440 x 900 looks very nice compared to the messed up resolution on the 27" iMac.

Installing Windows 10 is so very nice compared to the old days of installing Windows.

I still remember installing windows 3.1 with all those floppy disks :p

Oh yeah, I'll never forget those days. I remember, also, Windows 95 came in something like 25 or 50 diskettes.

Windows NT 4 was a pain too as I recall.

Upgraded to WIN 10 TP Build 9926 -> Stolen Icon? LOL

I finally got around to installing it at work; have been running it at home almost daily on the Mac.

I made a VM in Vsphere 5.5 today and installed build 10041.

I'm able to bring it onto my domain and log on as an administrator, but the Start button doesn't work and the Cortana search bar doesn't work. When I try to sign on with my domain user account it will not pull my profile down off the the DC and instead creates a temp profile. Looking at the Event Viewer it shows a group policy error that I need to investigate.

So I am using it as a local account instead of a domain account, which still works for me. I've got most of the things I use normally installed such as MS Office 2013, Dropbox, Evernote, TrueCrypt, and Firefox.

Still though, in the local user account I am using, the Cortana search bar still doesn't work, but the Start button does.

Windows 10 in Bootcamp

Any risk/downside in installing W10 in Bootcamp instead of VM?
