I am a stout and porter guy, so naturally I had one of my aged "Black Tuesday (2023)" from The Bruery this past weekend along with a few other bottles from some really good breweries:

Bottle Logic - Number Crunch (2019), This one aged incredible well. Almost too good.
Bottle Logic - Red Eye November (2023), Love me some coffee based stout and this one did not disappoint
Angry Horse Brewing - Wit-Tier Blvd (2025), This was more of a palate cleanser, as it was a light Belgium style Witbier and it tasted really good after the really big and heavy stouts.

German beer fest. With asparagus beer. Well…

Germans are weird, when it comes to beer.
Usually, - in my experience - their beer is excellent.

Which begs the question of why even experiment with such a renowned product, (German beer), a product that is already so exceptionally good and hardly needs improvement?
I wouldn’t really recommend it, but I thought I’d post it here, because I could imagine people like you being intrigued, at least. :)
Intrigued, yes.

Overcome by curiosity sufficiently to succumb to the temptation of actually sampling such a beverage,.......well, no, not really.

The annual German “Bierfest” is primarily targeted at craft beer experimentalists and their customers and friends. This is less about making good normal beer and more about experiencing new frontiers.

Beer is important. I’m spending the weekend in Munich. It is surprising how bad the beer in Munich is (for those who are into good beer). Ayinger. Tegernseer Spezial (not their very nice Helles). Starnberger. Booooring.

Given that Weihenstephaner (the oldest brewery in the world that still brews, and brews some superlative beer), hails from Bavaria, I would be surprised if it was not possible to lay hands on some Weihenstephaner beer.

It probably is, but that’s not really an interesting beer in my opinion.
"Not really an interesting beer" in your opinion....

Have you actually tried it? Or, rather, have you tied any of them given that Weihenstephaner brew an entire selection of beers?

More to the point, you are aware - I assume - that Weihenstephaner doesn't just brew one beer, but brews several beers, across the entire range - a standard Helles, a dunkel, three types of Weissbier (clear, cloudy and dark), and sundry seasonal specialities, some of which are outstanding.

They are not only the oldest extant (and continuously brewing) brewery in the world, but are regarded as one of the very best, also.

I know, but my favourite Weizen remains the Gutmann (which I had just yesterday again), my favourite Helles is a Tucher. I wouldn’t say Weihenstephaner is (objectively) a bad brewery - it’s just that I, personally, prefer others. I liked their Pils though.

Ah.

Actually, I haven't had the pleasure of sampling (sipping, savouring) either Gutman or Tucher; must keep an eye out for them.

Tonight is champagne Charles Heidseick, one of my favorite with Perrier-Jouët & Deutz.

Then a delicious Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes. We are having foie gras à la figue and scallops.

Bon appétit!
While champagne is one of the few wines I am not especially enamoured of, I would be a whimpering mess of drooling and delighted salivating anticipation were someone kind enough to think to offer me a Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru.

Yum.

Do enjoy.

A few online shops have them. They’re quite hard to get outside Bavaria though. Even Lower Saxony has them sometimes.
I imagine that this pleasure shall have to await when I next manage to visit Bavaria in person.

For now, as my local off-licence does stock Weihenstephaner beers (and has done so, at my request), that is what I shall proceed to stock up on, along with a few Belgian classics.
