I’ve once had an excellent BenRiach 1994 from a Tokaji cask. In whiskey circles, there are two groups of people, and I’m with the “I like Tokaji casks” group. The other group hates it. I wonder how good the wine is…

Do enjoy!

Reactions: it wasnt me
I did some shopping today. An old friend is coming to visit next weekend who really enjoys having a drink and watching football together, so on Easter Sunday we're going to watch the football in a local corner pub first (her favourite team is playing against my favourite team - mine usually wins, but we live in the city where her team is based - though no one has beaten me up over it yet...) and afterwards we'll probably drink a rum and a few Dirty Martinis.

The background to this is that I haven't drunk a Dirty Martini in a very long time, and it's been even longer since I made one myself. So today I went to my favourite wine merchant (family-run with absolutely fabulous advice - chain wine merchants might be cheap, but you'll never find that kind of expertise there) and bought an interesting German gin (with cloves, coriander, allspice, spruce shoots and lemon) as well as - and this brings us back to the topic of wine - a dry Italian vermouth.

I just tried the first Dirty Martini as a test run (with olives from the Turkish supermarket, they are simply the best) and I think I'll have to work on the proportions. The flavour of the gin is still too strong. But it's a good thing I'm trying this out now and not waiting until next weekend... 🙂
