Wireless Help, Por Favor...

Just so you know, you wouldn't have to do that - the AP Express will act as a bridge, so, really, you can add as many ports as you want, at just $129 plus tax per port. Bargain, really. And no wires. 😉

This just in:

I cannot connect to my Linksys WRTP54G (yes, the one that comes with Vonage) using WEP either. Just tried it.

So... not an isolated incident.

Possible solution, cheaper than AP Extreme: buy a cheap wired router, plug an AP Express into it.

Edit: BTW, I can't help but laugh at all the things you did to debug... not because they're wrong, but because of the way you rattled them off - it just shows how many various problems you've been having lately. So, I laughed... but I felt bad for you at the same time.

I'm thinking that Apple can't get networking right, ever, not completely. It ALWAYS seems to have something screwed up with it. Is it really all that hard?

Note: I have never tried authentication with that Linksys or with a non-hacked Linksys, ever. I use it for Vonage and use the APEs for wireless. So it might have been a problem - for me - earlier than 10.4.5.

you did remember to put a $ in front of the password, right?

when i had troubles with wep on my emac i realized i had to do that...
 
I got the same wireless router but i also have another wired router hooked up as well and it gave me a problem with getting into it. Ok OK sq one!

You was able to connect to the "Joe blows" network (this means your ibook is fine.)

Man open up that router config and push the default button(make sure u got your setting written down)....cuz i can't see a problem.

i wonder why 10.4.5 causes different problems with people, i have no problems, and i use a linksys router.

Do you use WEP? If so, 64 or 128 bit? Maybe that's the answer....

And, iGary, Software Update has had a few updates for AirPort cards... have you applied them? They might have been a while ago. I forget....

Yup, I use WEP - and all updates applied, yes.

Is there another way to secure the wireless signal that doesn't take a brain scientist?

Yeah, the Airport ones are pretty old.

I use 64 bit WEP

My setup is. Internet goes into cable modem, then to a Linksys non-wireless router, then to a WAP54G wireles G access point, then 64 bit WEP.

This may be weird, but have you tried a different WEP passphrase?

or tryied a different transmit key?

I have the same setup......all i can say here is to put your settings back to factory sets.

Did that, but I cant have an open wireless signal running around. Well, I can, but I won't. 🙂
