Crap, I didn't think of the short cable. I'm doing just the opposite, wireless kybd, and wired mouse. How short is the mouse cable? Long enough to go into the back of a 24" a foot and a half away?

cable is 18" long NOT including usb connector

Thanks on getting the cable length.

Well, I guess I'll stick with using a 5-button wired IntelliMouse. It has worked flawlessly and the cable is long and very flexible. I've tested a MightyMouse a few times but the side buttons seem hard to press. I guess it takes some getting use to

anyone know where to get the wired one cheap? amazon has one for $49 shipped, but does anyone know of any deals?

I go wired keyboard (must have a num pad wireless does not have one) and wireless mouse (the short cord on the new mouse is good in theory but I could never get the stinkn' curl out of the wire and it was constantly going under the mouse

That is exactly why I got rid of my wired mouse. It drove me absolutely nuts.

I picked up the wired version a few weeks back. After using it for about a week, I began to regret not picking the wireless. I just didn't like the idea of the cord, and though the num pad is something I prefer to use for numbers, I don't use it enough to need it. I returned the wired, and upgraded to bt. I love the wireless, I would never go back to wired. Isn't it also possible to buy a num-pad only keyboard?
edit: I also really like the extra space freed by lack of the number pad. Since my desk has a junky, off-center keyboard drawer, I need all the space for my mouse that I can get.

they're both great so I own both. :D

I know, who really needs two keyboards? I use the wired one on the desk and for more "serious" work. And i use the wireless one around the room (controlling my mbp with Quicksilver), or on my lap etc.

As for those who talk about lag, I have no such problems. The bluetooth keyboard is razon sharp. No lag at all, also when i type, the word appears immediately. The only downside to it is the battery life which i wished could be better.

But other than that, it's great. I love the wired one as well and would recommend it if you need the extra ports and just want a "fuller" feel in your hands.

otherwise, get both!

I use both (the new aluminum ones). Here are two things I haven't seen mentioned:

-- with the wireless, you can't use the commands you want during boot sequences (at least not on my '06 Mac Pro) because bluetooth isn't up & running and accepting signals fast enough. If I wanted to boot into my Tiger partition, I had to go grab an old USB keyboard. Also, it was common for me to have to wait even a minute or so after the logon screen before I could type my password, and the KB would be dropped regularly. My bluetooth is via a d-link external adapter, though. Perhaps the internal is better.

-- if you like to use the delete-to-the-right key, stick with wired. With wireless, delete-to-the-right is a two keystroke operation. I use it a lot and finally just couldn't stand it and ordered the wired keyboard.

I did like the wireless one in many ways, but eventually it was just too much of a headache for me.
