I'm done with you. Keep calling ppl names - everybody with different opinion is troll to you... that's what you're best at, and that's all you do here. Talk to yourself next time, casue I aint gonna respond to your nonsens no more.

Oh not this again. I've told you before exactly why I picked you out specifically to label you as a "troll," and tried, numerous times, to hammer some common sense of business into you by telling the reality of product development constraints. If you at least have toned down your ridiculous rhetoric, I wouldn't have been so aggressive but for now I'd suggest you to look at the mirror first to see what you've gotten such strong reactions from me and countless others in the past few months and ask who's the real "troll."

I don't get your point either.

How do you come to assume that the iPt 4G was less performant than the iPhone 4? As far as I know it's the identical cpu at the same clock-speed. The other day I'v seen a video on YT, where an iPt 4G was compared to an iPhone 4 by starting different applications. And surprisingly the iPt 4G was even slightly faster.

So could you do us a favor and inform yourself before starting complaining about sth. you apparently have no clue about?

Wow, if some ignorant person came here to read about the new apple devices they would leave with the impression that RAM doesn't matter. Maybe they would get the impression that the new ipt4 has more than enough RAM, which it doesn't. It is a great little hand held, but it needs more RAM.

Really? How many people are using the iPod Touch and saying "wow I'm having problems with this" where those problems are due to insufficient RAM?

Exactly, ram is very important, and it's gonna be more and more important in new graphical-rich games to come to the AppStore. Not to mention, developer of great demo Epic Citadel had to actually decrease texture resolution in order to be playable on the iPod touch 4th gen, because of it's ram limitations. That's only one example of what's to come in the future. Each game gonna have worse graphics than iPhone4 version.

Some other games, like Real GT racing, are running much smoother on the standard resolution iPod touch 3gen than 4th gen retina. 256 of ram might be good for standard ersolution, but it aint enough for retina display. It results in sluggish framerates.

Can you reason that statement? Or is it your instinct?

If this is your only concern, let me tell you that 512 MB won't change anything about the frame-rate.

Examples what for? I think you confuse speed with capacity. The graphics-fill-rate limits the frame-rate not the memory.
Huh? Try do some research before post any statement next time. I'm not gonna teach you basics. It really doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that device with 256ram gonna run game smoother on standard-def, than a device with same ram running same game on retina-resolution. The best example touch 4gen is incapable of displaying same quality graphics as iPhone4 is the fact developer of Epic Citadel had to decrease texture resolution, so that touch 4 would run this demo. It was all because of ram limitations.

If it's too thin get a case to beef it up. Mine is basically the same size as the previous gen now.

*lol* you are the one who needs to take a lesson here.

What is a standard-def please? Do you mean resolution? It's only natural that a 4-times bigger area needs more time to draw. Do you agree?

What did I say in my previous post?

There is no relation between speed and ram to Epic Citadel, if you think there is then please explain more precisely!

Like I said I'm not gonna teach you lessons. Clearly you don't do any research before you post. Try find out why Epic Citadel had to be ripped of iPhone4 version textures in order to get it to run on iPod touch 4gen at retina res. Maybe then you'll know... Also it really wouldn't hurt when you search google for information about GT racing performance speed on iPod touch 3gen vs iPod touch 4gen.

Not only are you resistant to logical arguments, you don't even realize it.

BTW: what do you say about epic citadel being able to run on the ipad without any texture-size-reduction? And the iPad has the same amount of ram as the iPt.

Geez, not this **** again.

Sigh. If you want an iphone, buy one.

This is a ridiculous response. An iPhone has a monthly contract tied to it if you want to stay at the price point of the iPod touch. Everyone who buys an iPod touch, more than likely has no need for the phone. This is a different target customer for Apple, and there really is no good reason why the iPod touch can't be identical to the iPhone 4 design minus the phone. Haven't run into too many people buying the iPhone for the features but don't need the phone.

Sure there is. It's just from a business perspective moreso than a purely technical one. They have price points to make. They don't want to sell a line of iPod touches that go for $299, $399, and $499.

Let me count the ways:
1) Too thin -- actually not as comfortable to hold. The iPhone is plenty thin and small.
In my opinion it cant be thin enough. And if it is really a problem you can use a nice looking case. Protects and some grip :p

2) Volume rocker / power switches are on the beveled edge of the device, making it much harder to press compared to previous generations. Who would think this is an improvement?
I agree with the volume rocker but I never use it anyway...
What's the point changin it all the time??? In the end it's nicer looking coz u dont see the buttons sticking out.

3) Rear camera is way inferior to the iPhone, and most other cell phones. HD video is a nice feature, but low-light quality is very poor. Less than 1MP for still photos is sub-par.
You shouldn't compare it with phones.... HD videos on phones sucks anyway even on a iphone4...

4) Styling. Personal preference of course, but I think the new iPhone looks awesome with the flat front, back, and sides. Did I mention more comfortable to hold?
ugly it's just a box..

5) Ear buds don't include the pause/volume control. This should really be standard when you don't otherwise have physical buttons for these.
Apple is cheap. they rather make 1 dollar per unit profit then pleasing you. :p

You shouldnt buy an apple product coz ur cleary not the customer that Apple targets on.

apple products = design+user friendly+premium price
if you want cheaper+btter audio quality+open source u should check some other brands...

Why not? If the iPod Touch had 3G, better camera, and not so ergonomically challenged (its gone from a easy to use thin to hard to hold anorexic), I'd buy one in the heartbeat. I have no need for a phone as my company provides a BB for free, so I'll be skipping this rendition of the touch. I'm sure there are many in the same situation as I'm in, and Apple is missing the boat. What kind of business perspective is that?

I am dissapointed too. Not because it's a bad iPod - it's good (for someone who never owned an iPod before), but because of the inferior features and some design faults. I predict this is going to be the worst iPod touch in terms of sales. Maybe that's good, so Apple will learn a lesson.

Here is my list of things I hate in new iPod touch
- rear camera being a joke, it's not even compared to worst cell cameras on the market, and it feels like 1995 not 2010.
- bad design, it's just to thin, less comfortable than previous gens + there are mass reports about light leak
- poor batterry life + it heats much more and quicker than previous gens
- not so much improvement in performance (underclocked A4 chip, still just 256mb of ram)
- retina resolution screen, but poor picture quality (terrible blacks and viewing angles)
- going back to old remoteless headphones from 2gen is a joke

+ not that big of a deal, but they took away a dock adapter. It's funny cause Apple each year is taking something away from the package - last year it was a cleaning cloth, this year it's dock adapter and mic/remote from headphones. I wonder what they gonna take away next year? Maybe iPod touch itself? lol :D

That's about it.... I'm skipping to 5th gen, which I hope gonna be A REAL improvemnt over 3rd gen.

1. If you want a nice camera, go buy a 9.0 megapixel camera from BestBuy. The iPod's camera is not supposed to be the camera you use for special occasions. It's for when you're messing with your iPod, and you see something cool and you take a quick pic.
2. Some people actually like the thinness.
3. Unless you're worried about you're hand burning off, I think it's ok. Buy a case. It will make your iPod thicker and you won't have to worry about the heat.
4. Name reasons how this will drastically mess up you're music/gaming experience.
5. It's not like you're gonna be tilting your head to the side when playing a game, is it?
6. You can get them from eBay, you know.

iPod Touch 4 is too thin! Bad button locations.

Just bought this newest version hoping to upscale, but it feels like a down grade.

1) Buttons are on a sloping bevel, causing my iPod to jump out of my hand ever time I adjust volume, which is constantly.
2) Rear camera is very low quality compared with the iPhone 4G, which I also have.
3) Mic is facing the back camera so my FaceTime(tm) callers keep asking me to yell or speakup.
4) The speaker max volume is too low to have a good FaceTime(tm). Can barely hear them.

The majority of these problems would be acceptable, but the issues concerning the button location is just not. The original iPod 3G was thin enough and the buttons were already as small as you could get them. At least the 3G had the buttons direclty on the apex of the edge allowing for good balance and control. Seems Apple let some artistic folks get too involved in ergonomic decissions, big mistake.

Apple could have easily just kept the old design and simply added the cameras, retine display, and I would have been happy as a clam.

I am actually shocked that Apple would release this version with such an unnecessary design decission. Apple screwed up!

Another useless post from someone who doesn't own the device. Your the type who gives reviews on Amazon even though you've never owned what you are spouting off about.

You've never used the camera...so your opinion is ridiculous. Good or bad, your talking out of your hind parts. Mass reports of light leak? I just got one on Wednesday, and guess what, no light leakage. So I guess I'm not a part of the 'mass reporting' you are hearing about. I'm scared to ask for your source....probably as scattered as your opinions. My iPad has 256MB Ram, and it works great with no lag. Same with this iPod, but oh wait, you don't own either, so how would you know...you wouldn't...have i made my point yet?

If you've managed to waddle yourself into an Apple store, you might have been able to conjure up an immediate position on size. In one respect, I agree about the device being too thin, but it breaks down to preference and not failure. However, once a case is on it, its really a non-issue either way.

So again Goodboy, for your opinion to be worth anything more than what I find on the sidewalk in the morning after people have walked a few dogs through, how about actually buying the device you are playing expert on.

And if Apple did place these hardware upgrades into the iPod Touch, and raised the price, you would be complaining about that as well. Bottom line is that there is nothing that comes close to the iPod on the market today at that price point. Nothing even comes close. So you accept its design or just don't buy.... Pretty simple.
