Until Apple makes some changes to the OS to allow the iPad to function less like a large iPhone and more like a small Mac, I feel like most hardware improvements will be wasted. iOS doesn't even come close to utilizing the power of the current hardware, especially on the 12.9 inch model with its 4 GB of RAM. I'll probably be staying with my current 9.7" Pro for a while until they make the switch to OLED displays. I'd also like a pencil that is easier to store and perhaps a bit more geared toward writing rather than drawing. But it's not a huge deal to me. My only other requirement is that the iPad not get heavier. The 9.7" model is finally down to a weight where I can hold it comfortably in one hand for long periods.

Really though, it's the software and not the hardware that's holding the iPad back at this point.

How about something as simple as different color cases for the 12.9 from Apple? All the other size iPads have options. Apple hasn't added anything for the 12.9 size since launch.

My wishes :
A10X processor (4GB or more)
True tone
Rose gold , matte black
12MP and 5MP camera

That's enough to make the upgrade

Bring the Pro 2 Apple please

I have no hardware wishes for an upgraded iPad, I am highly unlikely to upgrade before the Pro 3 rolls out. But I'd love to see some iPad love in iOS. Side by side support for all apps, not just safari is the number 1 feature I want to see to improve productivity on the iPad. Mouse support would be awesome for certain apps (I'm yet to find a spreadsheet app where the touch interface isn't horribly frustrating for getting things done!) but I would be very suprised if that happened.

The current hardware is not challenged by anything I throw at it. Software is what is holding the iPad back.

My next (dream)iPad upgrade wishlist:

-12.9" OLED with most natural accurate display possible
-6GB or more RAM
-lighter/narrower body
-wireless charge
-3D touch
-camera with flash and +12MB/also better front facing camera.
-new iOS capabilities

I know its quite much to ask(but its allmost christmas anyways) and hey, i got time to wait untill atleast 2018-2019 with my air2.

iOS that is iPad optimized is the most important thing that can happen. Sure there are hardware improvements that can be made, but its the software that is the major problem at this point.

I'd like the Pro in a 7.9" form factor. I love both my new 12.9 Pro and current mini but now that I have the Pro, I'm really wishing the mini had Pencil support. I would absolutely love a mini with Pencil support and a 256gb option. For me, that would be an ideal travel companion for my Pro.

I'd also like mouse/trackpad support and some way to easily switch the Magic keyboard, any future trackpad/mouse, and Pencil between devices. Perhaps W1 equipped accessories for easier switching?

Other than that, my current Pro is seriously awesome for me.

Here's my wish list (well, more of an 'expecting' list) for the 10.5" iPad Pro:
  • 2732 x 2048 display @ 326ppi
  • A10X chip
  • 4GB RAM
  • A USB 3 Lightning port
  • Bluetooth 5.0
  • Improved rear camera (possibly a dual camera since it is a premium model)
  • 7MP Facetime camera
  • 3D touch!
  • A taptic engine with a virtual (but not software) home button.
  • No camera bump thanks to the extra 1.4mm of thickness.
  • A 'black' model
  • Possibly better battery life thanks to the better energy efficiency and the low power cores.

Other things on my wish list:
  • Mouse support in iOS 11.
  • A better Apple pencil that charges wirelessly on the side of the iPad and has an eraser.
  • A smart keyboard with Touch Bar.

I don't own an iPad Pro but I would consider purchasing one if Apple started treating it like an actual Pro device and a full fledged notebook replacement. I find it odd that the 256GB 12.9" Pro with smart keyboard runs a difference of less than $130 in comparison to the entry level Macbook (Canada). I am choosing the Macbook every single time.

Apple needs to create an actual pro version of iOS to go along with the iPad Pro. macOS has been taking elements from iOS for years and now it's time for iOS to take some from macOS. The Pro models are handcuffed by the current version of iOS that is found in the iPad mini 2. iOS 10 in its current state simply does not take advantage of the hardware and screen real estate offered by the Pro models. Sure, Apple has added a few elements here and there that are exclusive on these models but it is not enough. It is largely running the same software.

Time for some convergence between iOS and macOS. Actual trackpad support and an accessible file system would be nice on a $1500 iPad Pro. Imagine something similar to the Macbook, but the screen detaches and now you're holding an iPad Pro running a beefed up version of iOS. The current 12.9" Pro is less than a 0.5 pound lighter than the current MacBook. Less so when the smart keyboard is attached.

The Pro models are great tablets, probably the best tablets on the market. However Apple has long had the best tablets on the market the day they introduced the iPad. They need something more.

That's spot on apart from Mouse support!

Yeah :) . I put it in the "other things on my wish list" section because I'm not expecting it, but having used the smart keyboard with my iPad, having a mouse/trackpad not only feels more natural but also turns it more of a computer... surely Tim Cook wouldn't miss the opportunity for that :D

My wish for the iPad Pro 2? Apple drops the "pro" moniker so that people can stop stupidly getting hung up on the word "pro".

... not that it would stop people from thinking the smart move is to put OS X on the iPad...

The iPad lineup should have been:
iPad mini
iPad
iPad Plus

Although now that the 10.5" iPad will be in the picture it will be hard for them to remove the Pro moniker.

It looks like my top point has only now become apparent to MacRumors... and apparently many readers.

Better Battery
3D Touch
JET black color option
Faster Charging
The 12.9 should be able to run OS ON IT

I think my main wish for the next iPad uppgrade has to be OLED-display with better viewing angles and colours than current LCD. When I have noticed the annoying LCD "shadow" at certain viewing angles, it's simply impossible to make it unseen anymore.

Anyone who has ever used Jump Desktop (or Citrix) with the Citrix X1 mouse on a 12.9 iPad Pro KNOWS how great it would be to have native and universal mouse support in iOS. Having that option in no way interferes with the touch-centric nature of iOS.

Although I make use of this when I'm out and about, I even use it while I'm at home. It is nice to have the flexibility to work on my iMac (in my home office) at the dining room table, kitchen island, or backyard patio.

I really thought that Apple was going to introduce mouse support (via bluetooth) in iOS 10. But since they decided that the best thing they could do for iPad Pro users was to throw in some emoji packs instead, I've been less optimistic.

Mouse support has been pushed back to iOS 12 because Apple wants to introduce animated emojis in iOS 11. :p

are you blind man? can you not see the only obvious way forward in iOS and Pro development is in emoji evolution???
