14. Pendulums inside that generate electricity from kinetic energy and recharge the phone.

15. The ability to read text messages to me when I am driving, and ability of the phone to translate my voice to text messages when I am driving.

16. An option to lock the phone in landscape/portrait mode, for any application.

17. Ability to take a picture of a document and then search it for a word.

18. Ability to double as a USB flash drive and plug into any computer. (perhaps completely separate memory from the actual phone; to prevent viruses) Why? Because you will always have a flash drive with you then.

19. All cell phone towers have thermometers and the iPhones display the current temperature.

20. Built-in AM/FM radio receiver.

I think you can already see the temperature to some extent by hacking the CPU, since if the phone gets too hot like in a hot climate then it locks down and displays a screen saying it needs to cool down, unless that was fake I don't remember...

If the phone was just in your pocket when you took it out to look at the temp, it would not be the temp of the outside air.

the first 4 are all already happening. Evernote scans pictures for words, jailbreak can lock the rotation inside any app, and you can SSH and store things on your iPhone that way - not to mention the fact that there are voice apps that can help you out too. just wait till voice control is added in the API list.

Sweet Jesus, it took about seven hours since the next-generation iPhone was introduced for this thread to appear! I will never fail to be amazed by the Apple community :p

He just said most 3G users are not gonna shell out $400 to $500 for an upgrade every year especially since this one wasn't changed as dramatically as we thought ( yes I know the new features ), but I am in the same boat, I am waiting til the 4G comes and buying a 3G off contract because I had to give mine up and now that person is helping me pay half for a 3G, so I'd rather pay $200 for a 3G ( my half ) now and have it back and still be able to pay $200 for the next years iPhone instead of $200 now and $400 to $500 later, it's personal preference so he is well warranted to start this thread.

BUT, I agree about the whining (which I don't think this poster is doing) it gets annoying.

Think of this though, if people didn't whine to each other and to Apple, how would the technology move forward? Yes Apple may move it with what they think, but it is the consumers who move some of the features they want into these products.

WHY DO YOU THINK THEY PUT FIREWIRE BACK IN THE MACBOOKS? Remember the whining when they took it out?

WhY IS THERE AN APP STORE? Because the Jailbreak community pushed it there.

So it is an necessary evil for some of to whine about Apple otherwise , some of the features you have in the iPhone now wouldn't have happened.

I would like to see an IR receiver/sender so I can use my iPhone as a universal remote.

Also whilst we're dreaming I want it to be fully waterproof and shock-proof.

Of course it's early, but a lot of us 3G owners are stuck with waiting for the 4th generation iPhone since AT&T has yet to eliminate the $400 upgrading fee.

Apple has a year, technology is increasing exponentially, so use your imagination!

1.) 5 MP Camera or even 1080p picture quality. Videos will also be great quality. Light flash as well.
2.)32 GB($199), 64 GB ($299) models
3.)RAM goes up to 512 MB, up from iPhone 3GS's 256. Ridiculously fast!
4.)Ability to handle 3G at immense speeds (7.2 Mbps and above) and capability to use 4G
5.)Video Conferencing with a front faced camera
6.)Wireless-N capability
7.)Battery will be 50-100% better than iPhone 3GS
8.)Phone will be much slimmer and the screen will be .5-1 inch bigger,
9.)Slider keyboard option
10.)OLED screen
11.)Flash built into software
12.)We already know that iPhone is more powerful than the PSP and DS combined, so maybe Apple can work on making the graphics closer to the PS2.
13. Ability to use the iPhone has a portable hard drive. This might be fixed in a firmware, but if we had 32 GB sitting in our pockets, it would be tremendously useful in so many circumstances.

Maybe it will be worth waiting a year, we'll see!

I would add a screen in a resolution of at least 480 by 800 and oled- other than that, you nailed it!

what about a louder ringer? also with 3.0 can you set custom incoming SMS/mail sounds? if not add that :D

Oh- and one more annoying freaking thing!- a consolidated email inbox!!!!

I have 6 email accounts- and I would like to see all the new emails get put in to one folder at the top of each of their individual email inboxes so I don't have to go in and out of every single one. This seems like such an obvious feature...

Amen, brother!

A few weeks ago, I was at a sci-fi/fantasy convention. I was in a room with several other people, three others with iPhones. Two people was texting. Every time that tri-tone went off, every one of us looked at our phones. It was hysterical.

Allow me to change the text message/alert sounds! Hell, even my five year old Moto RAZR could do that. I want my Super Metroid sound back as my non-ringtone alert sound again.

Bring It!!!
If apple made the next iPhone like that, I would buy 4 extra just to look at!:D

So you can run music apps like Pandora, Slacker, Simplify Music, etc in the background. I hate having to exit out of an app just to look something up. Once 3.0 comes out I will re-jailbreak to use Backgrounder again.

As will I. It is probably the most used jailbreak feature on my iPhone.

Offtopic: It is probable that the JB community will be able to activate the dormant 3.0 features (Video Recording, Voice control, etc.) for the earlier iPhones! JB ftw!

Right like all that happened to the iphone yesterday was minor.

  • HD OLED Screen
  • Custom SMS tones
  • 4G service
  • Verizon phone
  • background tasks
  • push
  • new arm processors
  • double the current 3GS ram
  • sleaker design, maybe back to the original iPhone's design
  • dedicated graphics chip for gaming/hd viewing
  • probably other things that i just can't think of right now

Good list.
They could have the multi-core ARM A9 Cortex that isn't out yet, and a nVidia tegra graphics chip. There are also many more options for graphics hardware such as the Mali gfx chips and also the PowerVR SGX 5XT.

Real cameras have a cover that closes over the lens. It would be nice if the iPhone's camera had a cover that closes over the lens. Whenever the camera App is opened, the cover will open.

No, real cameras do not come with a lens cover, they come with a HUGE bulky secondary battery strapped to the bottom.
