I just did this last week. I picked up a 256GB 8+ in a sale and gave my 11 to my partner. I had been 'playing' with an old 7+ for a week or so and realised that I much prefer the user experience. If the 7+ was not the 32GB model I may have just stuck with that as it still runs like a dream on iOS13.

So I was at the Apple store last night and just before the cashier was about to swipe my cc, I had a change of mind. I realized by downgrading to the 8+, I'd be déclassé.

I always find it amusing when people say the Plus series is dated. I'm still using a 6 Plus (which looks like the 8 plus) (though I own a 7 & 8 too) and never does the thought come to mind that the design is "dated". It's different than the newer lame ones that have a notch and no home button but it's arguably maybe even a better design.

Agreed.

I'm still using an iPhone 6S Plus... and I never once cared about what my phone "looks like"

And I also don't care about what other people think of my "old" phone either... :p
