March 8th was a rumor. It’s silly to act like the event has been canceled or postponed because of world events. It wasn’t even official. A rumored event can’t be canceled.
Good gawd. Only an idiot would plan an event on March 8th. That International Women's day. You don't want to potentially piss off half your customer base by stealing thunder from the one day they get to shine. Gurman is an idiot for thinking any sane man would plan an event that day that ain't centered around women.OMG! Gurman got the event date wrong?
The world still in shock and it's getting more shocking daily... not a good time for any sort of event... it won't wrap up in a week or month, but the shock will wear off in a few weeks... even then they'll need to keep it low key and humble, acknowledging the situation at the start (whatever it will be then).Obviously what's happening in Ukraine is more important than an Apple event, but I'm not sure that these world events are going to cleanly wrap up in the course of a week, a month, or even a year. Does that mean no new products or announcements?
I think Apple doesn't want a spring event when the invasion in Ukraine is happening.
Maybe because they won't get as much press attention because of the current world situation? Not a bad thing, would make sense of them to wait.
Apple events are edited for excitement and exude energy. Apple flashy invites are invites to a consumerist party, an orgy of technological escapism and first world hair splitting of specs.
Now you tell me how would all of the above play out in such a time of war and humanitarian catastrophe without sounding tone-deaf and phony.
Of course they're not going to do a big event with the war in Ukraine, what did people expect.
Headline: "Tim Cook excited to introduce new iPhone SE. Meanwhile, Ukrainians fight for their lives, Russia to start WW3"
Ukraine and Russia are meeting again for talks. If there's a ceasefire arrangement an Apple event could be a week after a ceasefire.
And it was true. March 8 event just announced. What happened? MacRumors and other leakers kept repeating the same rumor, over and over again. Then, they decided that because the rumor had been reported so often, it must be true.
End of story.
