Sounds like you've made up your mind then! You've seemed pretty stressed about your IPP well before this announcement.

I don' know if I will be able to read the letters on the 9.7" screen comfortably if I have two pdf open side by side.

Based on experience with the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, that size is about right for holding. 12.9" is a bit large. Not sure about 9.7" and 10.5".

If we know when the iPad PRO 12.9" will be released, the decision making would be easier. Certainly September/October is too far. If it will be released in June, I just wait and decide.

We don't know when new IPPs will be released. What would you need a new IPP 12.9 to do that the current one doesn't?

I plan to use it for at least 4-5 years. If I settle with the 2017 now (possibly at the end of the cycle), I lose one year of future proof when later iOS versions stop supporting it. That is one main reason.

Another reason is the possibility of higher resolutions due to the thinner bezel. How likely will that be?

There is no connect for Smart Keyboard on the new iPad. I use the keyboard a lot more than the pencil, so would not consider anything other than the Pro - not to talk of the difference in size

This. Even though for me (9,7" iPad Pro) there's no size difference, the lack of Smart Connector is a deal-breaker. I use a keyboard - Logitech Create in my case - quite a lot, and there's just no way I'd trade the convenience of a Smart Connector to having to deal with pairing and charging issues related to Bluetooth keyboards.

I went to a local store to check out the iPad 9.7" 2018 but it is still not available for demo. However, after trying out an iPP 10.5", I know that the new iPad 2018 is not for me. Even on the larger 10.5" iPP with higher resolutions, it is still too small to read pdf version of a textbook I downloaded in the store. I could not see the entire page shown clearly.

Not sure why Apple always make us wait for a few days before demo devices are available in stores.
