I think updating their desktop lines every 2 years is the right thing to do.
That's 730 days. In between... they should "spec bump" every year.
Then for every new design... take $500 off the price of the 2 year old machine and $250 off the price of a 1 year old machine.
That, imo, would be fair to everyone involved and would simultaneously appease their fan base/customers as well as help themselves financially by selling their older products.
This would be great, but I don't see them doing it... ;(
The thing about these delays is not so much the lost clients and frustrated users, but the lack of faith in the future of that particular machine.
No one wants to invest and be used to something that will be forcibly "removed" in the future. And without any prior warning.

It has been said for ages now that Apple has been abandoning their pro users and every time I read it I just thought to myself "oh you are just crying because you are impatient or want attention/free stuff" but now I actually see it. Lately the focus is just iPhone, iPad, macbook pro, iPod. All mobile stuff. Lets be honest you cannot do heavy stuff on a macbook pro. It is too limited in performance plus heating issues. I also wouldn't be silly enough to get one with an external large display vs buying a desktop or AIO.
Been using Apple since 1992 or 91 or something dunno one of the two. Using PC at same times though. Kinda sucks that they are going down this route and even the os x is turning more into iOS which i am not in favour of either. It seems even if Apple do keep their desktop pcs running that the software is being hindered too much by iOS and perhaps touch screen processes running which I would never use.
The post PC argument. I am sick of hearing that too. There will never be post PC because of people in production. As long as there are Windows/linux boxes available, they will always be bought.
I am waiting so hard for this iMac, since April actually and I want it so much but each day the tension to jumping the boarder and going into windows land is growing stronger.
I am sure Apple would lose a lot of iToy customers if they abandoned their desktop range too. In my own thoughts, I use iToys because of their seemless integration with my iDesktops. Sure they look beautiful but there is now decent competition in that market and I am not so sure I would choose iToys if I didn't have iDesktops.
I'd wait until the end of the month. There should be a Mac Mini coming out, possibly with a quad core / discrete GPU, as discussed on another thread.
I agree and after this Cook/Forstall will resign but only after having devasted Apple.Sad but true.A different company knowing how many users are waiting for their desktops would have done simple just giving a stupid simple spec bump in a sec,not hanging users to stupid lamination excuses or just silence. The other competitors are not beleving their eyes but are not saying nothing because its too beauty to see Apple so idiot axing on their own.

Quad core..don't think its possible to be seen by Apple, maybe using A10 Amd Apu..
(sigh) perhaps you'd like to count the number of active users on this forum who are waiting for a new iMac. Multiply that by 10 or a hundred or greater and it still won't be that large a number. I suspect most people who want an iMac are going out and buying one if they can.
and lamination problems is just another rumour. Apple have never used it as an excuse. And, as for silence, do you know Dell's roadmap? I've checked and can't see anything on their website. What about HP? Apple is not the only company out there that's cautious about publishing release dates.
I don't know if it's your intention, but you are starting to sound about ten years old right now![]()

The difference here is that top-of-the line Dell or HP computers have most current components. And, as for silence, do you know Dell's roadmap? I've checked and can't see anything on their website. What about HP? Apple is not the only company out there that's cautious about publishing release dates.
