I went to check notifications and couldn't get the screen to wake. I tried resetting it and even connected it to iTunes and could not get it to wake. I had no indication before hand that there was a problem with it. Took it to the apple store they ran their tests and confirmed it was toast. Without any hassle I ended up walking out with a brand new phone. Customer service like this is why I love apple and don't mind paying premium for their products.

Man... why are you killing these innocent iPhones like that! Okay, you got away with it this time, but next time. Apple Police will be on your door! Apple's watching you! :apple: ;)

Seriously, glad it all worked out for you!

Trust me there were a few expletives coming from my mouth on the drive to the apple store. One month old $1500 dollar phones shouldn’t be dying.

were you using apple charging adapter, same one which came in box? was the charger working after this incident? what did apple said why it got toasted? What if this happens again? These are lot of questions, take your time no worries. If you have apple watch take 1 minute breathing intervals while answering.

Probably not. But I think it’s also fair to say that so many things can go wrong with tech, and all the millions of iPhones that they produce, you happen to be one of the unfortunate ones that actually had a malfunctioning iPhone. But as already noted, it’s more important about the manufacturer standing behind the product when things ‘Go wrong’, even with Apple products.

Price is irrelevant when it comes to issues. Your iPhone is one of many mass produced on an assembly line and most likely not thoroughly tested. Whether it cost $.99 or $9999 some unforeseen issues are going to happen.

What matters is how a company handles these issues and in this case Apple handled it well for you!

The average failure rate of any type of device is high for a short initial period (due to inherent component failure) then levels off for a longer period. The failure rate then starts to rise due to component degradation. This is known as the "bathtub curve": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve

Anything can fail. $1500 phone $100,000 car. Multi million dollar Jet

You got a replacement the warranty was honored. That’s what’s important.

How did you get an appointment at the Apple Store so fast? I didn't think you could just drive there.
I'm genuinely curious.

I'm surprised that it took 7 replies for the first stupid response.

You're correct, I had no appointment. Maybe since it was a "serious" issue that wasn't a fault of my own they took care of me? If I went in with a cracked screen they probably tell me to come back by appointment.

Do you expect “sales” lady to grab a tool
set and diagnose the faulty issue while I’m waiting? The phone gets shipped off somewhere where they diagnose the problem and then it’s gets recycled.

It wasn’t the Genius Bar, my bad for omitting that. She connected it to a Mac and it couldn’t read the phone. I use an amazon wireless charger. I doubt that’s the issue since I used it for almost a year with my iPhone X.

Did you have Apple Care Plus? Do you know if Apple would cover this if it happened to my XS Max outside the 14 day return/exchange window? Ugh! Why is always a gamble to buy any Apple product?

I don’t have apple care. You raise a good question though. I assume we might get a year warranty if it fails on its own? I’m sure someone in this forum has an answer to that.

The word "LIMITED" in Limited Warranty always throws me off with all their legal jargon.

I guess Limited warranty means if iPhone has screen, liquid or any other damage by your own fault then apple won’t honor one year warranty. But the case like OP they will replace it with another one but not necessarily in brand new original box with all the plastic packaging & accessories etc.
