I think this is pretty cool. I believe it will probably get better with more development. For me this will be handy when I go to Argentina in a few weeks to decipher menus.

To those here who are quick to say "It does not work" because it get's one thing wrong while ignoring the other 99 things it got right: it must be so hard being THAT perfect in THIS world we live in. You must be the perfect employee who never ever ever gets anything wrong. But the day you make the slightest error (even if it is attempting to do something no one has ever seen done before) then you should be sacked... No second chance. :D

I think this app will be great for travelers. The real question is how well it works on the text you'll actually see -- like street signs and menus -- since it won't all be in big block letters on a solid color background.

The Apple II doesn't do many the things that am iPhone 4 can.

But it is part of the evolution of the species.

What it takes is time an effort - both requiring money.

If you think this app has a great future - invest in the company either directly by buying things - or indirectly by downloading it so investors can put money in.

----

Just downloaded it and was impressed by its potential.
Imagine being able to translate books, forms, bills ....

it don't work!

I bought it, having had quite a bit of travel in my past, and most likely more in the future this app could be extremely helpful. It barely works. I faced a massive, starkly designed poster for the film Blow-up which used large, block letters that were perfectly clear. Occasionally they would flicker and sometimes they would pause in the effect, but generally this app doesn't work enough to be considered worth the money.

People, we are living in the future!

Here are some examples I took this morning and at lunch to add to the pile:

My jaw is on the floor!
These are the kind of results I've been getting too... this app is absolutely amazing. People who are complaining are either not using it properly or expecting way too much from the translation (which has been clearly explained is a literal, word-by-word translation). If you use it as intended, and interpret as intended, it's absolutely remarkable. The fact that it can recognize text, on the fly, from live video, and do anything with it at all, is amazing. The fact that it can, on the fly, superimpose a response to that text - at correct angles and colors - on your $99 cell phone is beyond ridiculous. And people are complaining that it costs $5. Wake the hell up.

early reviews are saying that the app does not perform as advertised and needs a major upgrade to be considered worth the high asking price which must be payed through an in app purchase to actually get any translation functionality....

Everyone has an opinion
I purchased the two available packs and the $5 is hardly a high price in my opinion
I paid more than that for Infinity Blade and Madden 11 is regularly $12
And the App clearly states the expectations
It is in its infancy and it is amazing technology that is going to only get better

I bought a Mac SE when it came out and as I recall I paid over $4,000 for it
It didn't do nearly what my MBP does now at half the price
In fact, it hardly did anything, but at the time, it was amazing technology

High asking price?
I paid over $5000 for an XT and VisiCalc.
I just paid $5.06 for a grande latte and cookie.
Maybe mom and dad should up your allowance.

When I saw the YouTube video, I didn't believe my eyes, so had to download it.

A few minutes of testing... and damn! 'Tis the work of the devil!
Well, it will certainly be a popular app I can tell you. As mentioned previously, add voice input and printed guides are dead.

Love it.

Yes but a grande latte and a cookie work everytime. This app? Not so much.
