Has this got the legs for a third season?

Good question. I’ve found Season 2 okay so far, but pretty slow. Episode 4 in particular was beautifully shot (it looks like $20 million) but painfully slow and almost got boring at times. Really suffers from “we drew this scenic shot out extraaaaa looooong to fill 60 minutes” vibes.

Hopefully the pace picks up a bit in the remaining episodes.

This is what I hate about the big name, high profile shows. It takes YEARS between seasons.

It wasn’t always like this. Seinfeld used to bang out 24 episodes a season and barely took a couple months break between seasons. And many of those episodes are absolute classics that still stand up today…

I reluctantly started watching Severance (I liked Silo which was kind of ended abruptly) for its creepy storyline and overall aesthetic in the production, content, acting, storyline etc…This actually sealed me signing with Apple One Family ($4 per month with 200GB iCloud Storage, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Arcade etc.. - Previously I was only signed up for $0.9 a month 50 GB iCloud package). The latest episode seems to be dragging the series unlike its earlier ones. Hope they come up with something that is engaging. Yet, my favourite Web Series so far is The Day of The Jackal, watched the entire series two times.

As far as pacing goes, Episode 4 is the worst one so far.
But only with regard to pacing. It other respects, I think I’d argue it is the most revealing episode of the entire series so far. I think maybe I can explain in general terms without spoiling anything. The show is about brainwashing. You’ve got three basic groups, innies, outies, and the cult. Outies may or may not be part of the cult, and they may or may not be severed. I’m not going to explain the twist revealed at the end of episode 4, because it gives too much away, but I’ll just say I think the basic idea behind the show is genius.

Exactly I felt and mentioned in my earlier message! It is artificially dragging to keep the series alive without any interest from the audience. Even Silo was something like that at times. I understand that Severance is a slow paced Web Series but S2E2 is really boring at times.

I like the series to be watched continuously rather than every other week or so. Since I watch few other series as well, things get out of my mind many times. When I watched Silo S1 continuously, it was way better imo.

I watched Episode 4 of season 2 last night. It reinforced something I have been thinking since watching a number of Apple TV+ series. Note: I am not a prude and have no problem with crude language...

I find the use of F**k in almost every statement by many characters is nonsensical. It adds nothing to the scene. Very sloppy and lazy writing. It is done to a bit lesser level in Silo and Bad Monkey, and as much in Sunny. Either I am out to lunch and this reflects how the vast majority of society speaks today, but I don't think so.

All American movies have this bad words in all forms of content and inspiring even European movies with some of these bad words. I understand they want to reflect the social characters on screen but too much of bad language is not a healthy art! The villian like characters in Severance hardly speak bad words while all the so called good guys are talking all unparliamentary language! Very unfortunate situation!

You’re gonna stop watching severance due to one anonymous poster on an Internet forum? It’s not really the tv series a more about making negative decisions based on anonymous posts.
congrats on whatever that was. all i said was that if it was the case, I was done with the show, and I was replying specifically to someone who replied to my earlier comment. Sorry if that caused you any consternation. 👋🏻

You are the new normal, I think. The advent of streaming has completely changed the landscape. I think producers and writers are still feeling their way, but long term it’s not altogether a bad thing. These shows are being made to anchor streaming services long term, not to generate ad revenue on broadcast television. The era of self-contained episodic television is over. Something like Seinfeld is now classic TV, from a different era.

I just started season 2 and unless the writers dropped the ball totally, plan on finishing the season out. It’s true each episode has their thing and not every episode is liked or enjoyed at the same level.

But me, I wouldn’t quit a series because an anonymous poster said it wasn’t a good episode. YMMV.

Yes, I’ve noticed that too, and I’m a connoisseur of the F word. I think writers’ rooms are smaller than they used to be. So things that sound good in a writer’s head don’t always get sounded out like they would in a larger room.

When Apple TV+ started out you only had a smattering of cursing. The original idea was to that Apple would keep the content more family friendly than other services and studios. But they’ve really dropped that idea pretty quickly, and it’s a shame because it adds nothing to the stories.

I am not an advocate of family friendly if it veers too much to the clean side, but the use of one word far too often in these shows is very off-putting. They do not spice it up with a variety of swearing, just a low intellect reliance on one word. It adds nothing to the context. Ben Stiller's comedy genius father must be rolling in his grave.

It's evident that a lot of effort went into reworking the episodes for season 2, but unfortunately, it doesn’t capture the same intrigue or atmosphere as season 1. In fact, it feels like they overcompensated, trying too hard to keep the magic alive. The plots are far too predictable, and the writing feels more juvenile, characters end up explaining things to the audience that we already understand. The pacing is another issue, episode 4, in particular, drags on too much. While it’s still somewhat more engaging than Silo’s second season, if episode 5 turns out to be as underwhelming, I’ll be walking away from this show for good.

I just finished s2e4.

Based on some of the comments I was expecting a f grade show similar to the wolf of wall st.

I was pleasantly surprised e4 wasn’t that and like the trajectory of where the show is headed.

Exactly what I'm wondering…

Sometimes these shows overstay their welcome.

Example: Bad Sisters. Second season is just everything the first season wasn't.

Even my personal favourite "Slow Horses" is getting a bit formulaic

I guess milk it while there is some interest.
I’ve been binge watching slow horses for the past month and I feel like its gotten better with every season
And the seasons are so short it’s hardly tired yet
