$15-$24 an hour is a decent wage, I would not want to work for $9 an hour though- but perhaps the reward is in the benefits that come from working at an Apple store. :)

I dont know what its like where you are at... but here in TX really its hard to find a highschool/college job that will pay over, if $9.00 at all for begining. If you all know places that start you off at $9.00+ please let me know becuase I sure don't.

Blockbuster starts there managers at $9.00.

No, $9 an hour is a good wage for a high school/college student. I guess I just got it lucky because I have a college job that pays over $10 an hour. :)

Oh, I did not mean to brag, I just know the right people (the CEO), that is all. :)

Oh no no I didnt mean you were bragging. I mean't I'm litteraly Jealous of you.

Jobs I can find that pay 9+ you either need to work construction, which no offense but I can't speak Spanish (its texas), or you need to work as a Telemarketer.

Night shifts at walmart might get that pay also, but I'm not sure.

I go to a community college right now so there is no housing help what so ever and the cheapest apartment with in 20 minute drive is 650 a month for single bedroom. With 16 hours for spring semester there was no way I could survive on the pay most places pay here... That is why I am jealous becuase if I was making 9+ oh man...

Sorry to hear about your dilemma- although, it is one shared by the vast majority of college students. I certainly count my blessings.:)

Although, my extra money usually goes to financing my addiction to all things Apple...... :D

9 bucks an hr is defintily alot, more then i no that any of my freinds work for.

plus the apple store is at the mall 5 mins from my house so i wouldnt be wasitng anymoney really on gas because it is literally 5 mins away.

and also what better place to work then the mall?

Sounds like it would work nicely for you to work at the Apple store. And no, there is no better place to work in the mall than at the Apple store. :)

i no rite its perfect, me being 15 it is where all my friends hang out, and i would get to share my mac knowledge with manypeople and gget paid good!

You MUST be 18 to join Apple. Trust me. I tried last year, and got placed into the Regional Recruiters folder and told to call back when I'm 18 (next year) for a position as a Mac Genius.

When I described all of my talents, the guy was blown away. :D

No, working for $9 an hour and having to spend half of that for gas is not worth it. Perhaps Apple will eventually build a store near you, then you can work for them. :)

the closest apple store to me is 3 1/2 hours away:(

What kind of discount do Apple store employees get? Is it any better than the existing discount for students and teachers? While I think it would be awesome to work there, I would have to land a job at the genius bar at the top end of that 15-24 dollar range to match my current salary. It would be a great paying job for a college student though.

Ok...hearing that $9/hour is a lot for store workers, im wondering what an average wage is for working in a store? 'Cos i get £5.30 ~ $10 an hour and I only jsut started at the store...and im on a low wage compared to everyone else there. And that doesn't even get taxed.

It's a VERY nice discount...I won't tell, but you can find it somewhere on ifoAppleStore.com. They also get discounts on 3rd party products such as Nikon, Wacom, Cingular, Targus, etc....

I will apply for a job @ an Apple Store (the nearest one is basically on the way to where I'll probably be going to high school) as soon as I can, but I've heard some of the guys in there say they've never heard of Apple hiring anyone under 18. :(
I'll probably try for it, but I also don't know how I'd feel about working in high school. I want to focus on academics as well as friends in high school... sounds horrible, but.... haha.
I just don't want my energy sucked into something that may hurt me and stress me out more than help me.

EDIT: Okay, it's summer and I can't sleep so I'm on here waayyy too late, but I just found a part-time Mac "specialist" position online that says "Typically requires some High School education. 0 to 6 months of retail experience preferred." So... I'm thinking that means under 18 would quite possibly work?

I would love to work at an Apple store, but the fact that you can not visit or post on Mac forums like this makes me a little turned off because Mac forums are what make my day. :p I can understand why it is against policy though. I guess it'd be cool to know when new products are being shipped in and stuff.

Steve Jobs isn't looking over your shoulder every minute, and Apple doesn't tap your computer's IP address to see where you're going. Don't identify yourself as an employee or announce to your store manager that you post on the forums...and you'll be fine.

Goodbye MR

I just got hired. I'm bummed because checking MR is always the highlight of my day. :(

Before too many more people get excited about what the Apple store pays in Northern Virginia, there is the other side of the story - the cost of living around the Washington DC area. One bedroom apartments going for $1,500+ a month is normal. Rather buy a small condo rather then rent, no problem if you have $700,000 to cough up. It is what the newer ones start at. They can go as high as four million per unit. The Washington Post had a story not too long ago about a single mother government worker who was finding making it on just $60,000 a year in Arlington nearly impossible. Sorry to break someones bubble, but $8 is not a living wage in Northern Virginia, perhaps other parts of the country, if one is careful, but not there.

Go to my Apple store and you'll instantly see why that (being a geek) is definitely not a requirement.

Definitely not a requirement. I mean, I like a lot of the people at my local Apple store, but I'd be willing to bet that a lot of them have less friens than I do (that's not many, by the way...:p )

Anyway, they keep up to date on current happenings and rumors (at least, at my store) - before Boot Camp, they all knew how to install Windows on the Mac, for example...

Congratulations! My friend just got interviewed (some kind of pre-interview, where they make sure he's eligible to work there...)

Losing MR stinks, but I'm sure the Apple store will be terrific!

Good luck!
