My girlfriend hadn't used our Apple TV in over a year. (Me personally, I use it much more often). She turned it on for the first time this weekend, and she couldn't believe how many more icons are on the screen now, and how cluttered and overwhelming it looks now. Enough to make her not want to use it, lol.
It is time for folders, and an app store...

Pro Wrestling? Well, okay I guess. I will take this as another indicator that Apple is building critical mass to finally release the fabled iTV (or whatever it gets called). But seriously, Pro Wrestling? Maybe just me but that is definitely a channel that I did not see as high priority for the ATV.

You're missing the big picture. It's not a channel I would subscribe to either, but there are fans of it, and this is an opportunity to prove the model of subscription-based content migrating from the cable/satellite ecosystem to the ala carte on demand ecosystem.

I, for one, hope that it's successful so that it encourages other content creators to bypass the middlemen and go straight to subscription sales.

Wow, they really need to get rid of all the WATCH text from the icons. Yuck.

This has bothered me from the first batch of "Watch" apps. Very un-Apple-like, aesthetically speaking. Also, I understand the functional distinction they are trying to make, but semantically speaking, isn't "watch" what you do with ALL the Apple TV apps?! They should put all those apps in a separate place so they can easily be turned off for all the cord cutters.

On the topic of the WWE channel: I could be wrong, but seems to me Apple TV owners do not equal the demographic of WWE viewers. However, I applaud the attempt at a channel content subscription NOT tied to an existing cable subscription. Here comes a-la-carte!

Correct that it is not high priority. But this isn't necessarily something Apple had been working on or using its resources on. WWE wanted to be ahead of this pay model, are offering it on iOS, and are now offering it on ATV. In this case, it's simply that Apple shouldn't say no to a 30% cut of that $59.99 in-app subscription.
I just wish this were around a decare or two ago when I was a fan.

How is this showing up on AppleTV in Canada if it's not available here? For the record, I went through the subscription process but cancelled at the last screen because I don't want to subscribe and then not have full access. Is it working in Canada or not?

What's with all the stupid channels putting "WATCH" above the name of their channel? I'm surprised Apple allows this. I'm in marketing, so I understand the value of a strong call to action. However, we're already using Apple TV, so it's implicit that all the icons are channels that we can "WATCH". Do app icons put "OPEN" or "RUN" above their name? Do we really need to see "WATCH Disney" instead of just "Disney"?
.
I thought that was their branded name for their apps/channels. It's definitely "The Watch ESPN" app on my iphone and ipad. Not that that makes it look any better, but i think that's just what they're called.

So more stuff I would never touch on my screen. We need an App Store apple!

This is a serious question: What would Apple put in an app store for the Apple TV? Any time there is a story about Apple TV here a chorus of "give us an app store!" rings out, but I can't think of what an app store would feature.

I would pay to not have this on my Apple TV.

:D I know the feeling. The success of 'professional' wrestling is puzzling to me. I'm amazed that anyone over the age of 13 likes it. But it obviously is a huge draw and makes a ton of money.

Give me 10 bucks and I'll make it disappear off your Atv. :)

For geeks like us, it's easy peasy... but I have to admit that this functionality is unintuitive for the laymen.

Let's agree at 18, which is more or less the age I stopped watching it... When there was a clown (a real clown, not "normal" wrestlers)... :)

The Apple TV UI is turning into a cluster. So many hideous icons everywhere, requiring lots of scrolling. THE SCROLLING! The thing that drives me crazy is how imprecise scrolling is using an iPhone. I'm always scrolling past something, then I scroll back up and scroll past it again, and then tease it onto the correct item. The whole thing is a very un-Apple experience and drives me crazy. Between that and my Xbox One that can't understand my voice commands and a Kinect sensor that can never recognize my hand, I feel like there is huge room for improvement across the board. Hope Apple gets their crap together in the next version. Would love a mic with Siri integration. Siri usually works reasonably well for me. I'd get a Roku except that I really like AirPlay and having a photostream setup for a screensaver. Oh, and the SCREENSAVER! It will randomly stop using my photostream every 2-3 weeks, requiring me to go manually set it back up. What's up with that?

Can't wait for all the "wrestling is fake" comments.

We get it already.. So are all the TV shows and movies you watch.

I can't think of what an app store would feature.

At this point, it would amount to a way to get stuff off your :apple:TV. Imagine using an iPhone which showed you every app available, and popped up a "That'll be $59.99; Buy?" prompt instead of the current app-selection model.

If I don't want WWE (or half the stuff on the :apple:TV menu now), don't put it on there until I go request it from a "store".

An opportunity for a "killer app" just passed: The Olympics. We got cable TV just to watch it, and get access to the full-coverage online media. I don't want ad-driven Olympic content, I'll pay whatever my fair share of ad cost is to make ads go away. I don't want someone deciding which event I'm going to watch, I want end-to-end video of biathlon & figure skating (though the Ronin juxtaposition may be disturbing) when I'm good & ready to give my full attention. I don't want time-limited access thereto, I want to spend much of the next four years viewing every minute of every event. And of course, I don't expect that icon to appear on everyone's :apple:TV menu, I expect it to reside in an "app store", making it appear on one's menu only when purchased. Likewise, any channel can package all its content for easy access (imagine a History Channel app containing their full library and suitable pricing).

Easier for content providers to just make an app to access the content instead of waiting years for Apple to make one. Think of all the apps available on your iphone to access content that you can't on Apple TV.

Of course you can through Airplay with some apps but not all.

Agreed that it looks ugly. I think the "watch" label is ABC/Disney family of channel's 'clever' way to let you know that you will be watching a Live TV stream, just as if you turn to the channel on your TV/cable box. This is to differentiate it from apps that are like Hulu, or something similar that offer on demand shows. In this case, the word "Live" instead of "Watch" would be more appropriate.

Totally agree. It makes at least a little sense if "WATCH" designates a live channel, but I would much rather see "ESPN Live" than "WATCH ESPN". It feels like the icons are shouting at me.

The success of 'professional' wrestling is puzzling to me.

There are a lot of subjects which aren't popular enough to warrant automatic inclusion in channel packages (or even "a la carte", which is still a limited selection), but which given some easy way to deliver to those who want it will make quite a profit. Our puzzlement of interest therein aside, there's good money in whatever it is, and :apple:TV is the only thing even starting to provide such a mass outlet.

After finding out a few more details from a friend who works for WWE Network, I no longer think this is a good deal. All new episodes of RAW and Smackdown will be delayed by 3-4 weeks due to contracts with NBC.

This defeats the purpose of cord cutting if you're a wrestling fan who watches weekly. I'll put on a "classic" episode or watch a documentary once in a while but I watch for the NOW. This is not the solution for me, sadly as I will watch yesterday's show but not watch the show from 3 weeks ago for a "live sporting event", fake or not.

They almost had it...

The entire Apple TV project gets less and less appealing with every update....

I hate that they are just dumping new channels on the screen and making it my problem to hide them. Weather Channel?? WTF, because it is so hard to come by weather information :)

Have not used my Apple TV in weeks..... by now you can get Netflix on toasters for crying out loud.

ATV needs a major reboot

Great for wrestling fans but I really do not care about the latest WWE because it is terrible unlike the ECW and WCW days now it is soft, I wish ECW could come back in some form sadly ******* Vince owns it and killed it well actually Paul Heyman did because he is sell out.

Not even one decent Hardcore matches like Nick Foley days, what happened to the days where rules were being broken now everything is so watered down I mean remember Stone Cold days? Now those days you really did not expect what was going to happen it was just insane.

Now Apple can you guys try to work with Amazon Prime PLEASE? Another thing is work with Netflix there is a issue where Apple TV does not stream in Super HD it snaps back to SD.

ESPN rebranded their online video streaming service from ESPN3 (.com) to WatchESPN (.com). ABC/Disney Channel/ESPN have the same parent company. Makes sense to me.

Really, though, how much time do you spend on the home screen of your Apple TV? Mine is pretty much constantly in the Netflix app, switching to the ESPN app when there's a game on there that I can't watch on regular TV. I hardly ever look at the home screen.

This is not Apple's doing. ESPN's online video streaming service is branded by ESPN as WatchESPN. Kinda makes sense for Disney (ABC/Disney Channel/ESPN) to want the full name of the product on the app icon. You can debate whether ESPN should rebrand their online video service, but either way, you can't blame Apple for this.
