Anyone here who is complaining about "not needing this app" really needs to see the bigger picture. The WWE is the first network to defy the big cable operators and strike out on their own, despite outcry (whining) from them.
For years people have complained about not having "ala carte" model from their cable providers. That is, being able to pay small amounts for the few channels they watch rather than paying a larger amount for a lot of channels they don't. Television networks, thus far, have played ball with this model out of fear of lost revenue and cable operator retaliation (IE cable operators threatening to drop their channels from their established networks) if they don't cooperate. Cable operators have taken full advantage of both the television networks and the customers by raising rates on both ends due to, essentially, a lack of options. Now the WWE has struck out on their own, and are gambling that, in doing so, they can do even better than they have been being wholly tethered to a network.
Whether or not you like the WWE, or professional wrestling in general is beside the point. We NEED this app to be as widely available as possible. We NEED to support these kinds of moves, and hope that, by doing so, we can encourage other networks to do the same. Imagine being able to pay $20-$30 a month and being able to (legitimately) watch all of your favorite channels rather than paying $70+ a month to watch those same channels and have a lot of others you don't need.
So get off your high horses about professional wrestling being "beneath" you. Stop whining about petty things like this channel "cluttering" your screen (put it at the end of the line so you don't have to look at it if it's that big a deal). Tell any wrestling fans, past and present, that you may know who somehow don't know about this new program about it. Let's support this move, and applaud the WWE for their fortitude rather than condemning them for being "low class."
Unfortunately after reading the fine print this isn't as A La Carte as once believed... no Raw or Smackdown episodes for 3-4 weeks after broadcast. I was originally led to believe it would be up within minutes of the show ending live. They completely went from a "I gotta have it" to a "no buy" from me. PPVs alone don't cut it. I appreciate the old content but I'm far too busy and life is far to short for me to be reliving my childhood wrestling matches... if they change their policy or deal in the future I might revisit them as possibility. But it isn't the cord cutting innovation we were lead to believe. Definitely not the HBO Go version of the WWE.
