No Macbook / MacBook Pro mention?? :(

Not even a Mac hardware mention whatsoever.... :(

...I fear this may be a boring and unimpressive WWDC for non-iPhone users...

Yea this is pretty disappointing, good thing this isn't the real wwdc stuff

So what if the design is six years old? It's timeless. If you don't understand why the design doesn't need to be changed, then you shouldn't complain about the fact that it hasn't.

really, don't use circular logic, its stupid, annoying, and may "win" arguments, but certainly doesn't fool anyone.

Just caught wind of some talk about laptop bags being handed out at the WWDC registration - they are over 20 inches wide. Specs are that they are 20.5" to 21" long and are less than an inch thick on the inside. Your guess is as good as mine as to what they are though :/. Either that or they have some very elaborate plan to fool the WWDC members.

So that leaves several options here:

widescreen macbook air or macbook pro (20 inches long, not across) or
widescreen cinema display but very thin (highly unlikely, but just guessing)

I doubt that tablet would be considered at this point :/

Dang, I really hope apple is going to surprise us with something cool!

Anyone have any better guesses as to what the bags are for?

Who's more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him?

If it wins arguments, how does it not "fool" people?

Another example: The Mac Pro. People want a case redesign for that. Unless it brings anything to the table in the way of functionality, it does NOT need a case redesign. It's a workstation computer and isn't there to look pretty. It's there to be a frigtastic powerhouse.

I would like to see a magnetic latch on the MacBook Pro case. Other than that, a redesign could not bring anything useful to the line.

"Ooh! Tapered edges! Ooh! Chicklet keyboard!" Come off it.

The original aluminum PowerBook design won awards for one reason: It's STILL ahead of its time. Nothing in the industry matches it in terms of industrial design or bendage of the laws of physics (meaning, find me a 1" thick Wintel laptop made of any metal and weight comparable to a MacBook Pro).

The MacBooks and iMacs are there to be "pretty". Their purpose somewhat requires a case redesign to keep them "fresh".
The MacBook Pros and Mac Pros are there to get work done. Their aesthetics take a back seat to this. If you disagree, we're back to my original argument.

I'm calling upgraded MBPs with the addition of a 20" model! If they are indeed laptop bags then I will be very happy indeed. What sources have you for this juicy info?

I LOLd at your way-off interpretation of Apples engineering and design team. They are after FORM and FUNCTION. With what you mentioned about the MP, Apple might as well put the guts in a 90's beige pc case. As long it works, looks don't matter right? Wrong. The MBA is the perfect example of Apple putting design VERY high on their list of priorities. People don't want a stationwagon that does 200mph, and while the MBP is no stationwagon it could use a design refresh. Apple WILL do it----it's only a matter of time.

the fanboy in me prays for them to be for a MBP redesign, but it could be anything. Apple branded swag isn't unusual is it?

Whoa, man! It is a beautiful day in San Francisco! mid 60's and sunny. Can't beat it!

Looks like the weather will be like this for the whole week. Lucky I brought plenty of shorts.

Maybe I should go sign in for the conference...

Sorry, perhaps I came across wrong...

Design is absolutely one of Apple's top priorities. Occasionally, power takes a backseat to a product's design. Case (no pun intended) in point: the iMac. It's a desktop that uses laptop parts because the case is too small to proffer adequate cooling. I'm not saying that Apple doesn't care about the design of their professional computers; heavens, no. All that I was trying to say is that when it comes to personal computers, function follows form, and when it comes to professional computers, form follows function.

Put another way, Apple compromises potential power in the MacBooks and iMacs in exchange for kick-awesome cases. For the MacBook, that means no dedicated graphics, and for the iMac that means laptop processors.

With their professional machines, Apple has been shown to care less about updating their designs, as looking good is not their main purpose. Certainly, the shells of both the Mac Pro and the MacBook Pro are impeccably designed, and as they have worked so well for every technology that has been thrown at them, Apple has not seen fit to change them. This is why the MacBook Pro still uses what is arguably the exact case as the aluminum PowerBook G4 from six years ago, and the Mac Pro uses a case that is five years old this month. The primary goal of Apple's professional machines is to provide enormous amounts of power while fulfilling the secondary goal of looking good.

This is the distinction that I was trying to make in the argument for the necessity of a MacBook Pro case redesign. I am very open to little enhancements, (a magnetic latch, for one) but do not want to see large amounts of R&D spent on a total redesign of a case that has stood the test of time for over half a decade.

Forgive the length of this post; I have italicized my major points and hope that this clarifies my reasoning as to why a case redesign for redesign's sake is not the purpose of the MacBook Pro.

Got two calls from two of my friends who just did check in for WWDC. I thought it was a joke after the first one until the other guy called me and said he got the same thing. I hope apple isn't playing tricks with us on this one though :(

We'll see if I'm right or not tomorrow. Even then, I'm still darned excited.

The weird dimensions had me thrown off. I thought they said a 20inch screen at first, but then he said 20 inches LONG. This has me very confused as to what the heck its really supposed to house.

Call to anyone at WWDC: POST PICTURES OF THIS BAG.

Man, we're getting desperate... :p This could be a 19" MacBook Pro, though...

I just measured my 17" Powerbook...it's just 15" long. Whatever fits in the bag, it has to be HUGE!

P.S. - Both fingers crossed for a significant Mac Mini update. :)

People checking into WWDC are getting them. 20" wide and 1" thick...

oh YEY! :D you know what that means right??

EDIT: just did some research, and this is what they got last year :

its a WWDC 2007 Registration Goodie Bag, Oh Goodie

No... what are you implying? 21" wide is like a 24" screen size. No way they'd make a laptop that big, would they?

I'm intensely curious now, however. If it did mean new MBPs, that would make me quite happy...

now wtf is this "Biography:
6'1", average build, curly black-brown hair with natural white highlights (read: kick-awesome white hairs here and there) " who cares?? ROFL

That's how it is...

"ROFL" at the fact that you're actually reading it... :p I'm pretty sure you're the first one to have read it, much less commented on it. I throw dry wit into virtually every conversation... I don't here because I want to be taken seriously. Wait...
