Thank you so much. Thanks to all of you for your help and patience. I ran the Apple Diagnostics and it came up No Issues Found.

You know, my first computer was an Apple IIe way back in the early 80s when I was a kid. I used Macs in college. Yet here I am a noob all over again. It's been a rough month and the thought my brand new MacBook Pro might be defective just freaked me out. I am grateful for your help and patience. I have the warranty and AppleCare so I suppose I will be fine no matter what.

I wouldn't have a clue how to reinstall OS X, but it would probably be a good idea to learn.

It's pretty easy, follow this guide and choose the re-install option.

I just wanted to update. I disabled Dashboard and my problems went away. It's worked perfectly ever since.
