"I need 16GBs of RAM to run virtual machines, video rendering etc., "

I have a 2014 11" MBA 4 gig/256 and it runs Win 8.1 in a VM Ware Fusion virtual machine without any issue. I also run FCPX and iMovie without any issues.

Are your rendering on the virtual machine? That would be a more difficult task with any of the machines.

I excpect the 8 gig rMP will do just fine.

Personally I have used OSX with 4, 8 and 16 GB and found unles one is running a multiple of programs which require lots of ram anything above 8 is almost pointless. But if I always recommend one buy the most ram they can afford just for peace of mind.

In that thread the russian guys also stated that they played Diablo and did some photo/video editing for more than an hour without a problem. but yea can't wait for the reviews to pop up or rather test my own which ever is earlier :D

Then why at 4:26 of the video does it show that OS X can not be installed on the machine and the whole video you never once see the Macbook on more than a black screen? Benchmarks aren't legit, that was a non working unit.

This Russian girl is Ukranian talking Russian.
The reviewer was impressed with the new rMB, though stated that they had some lag with videos, but had no problems playing games, i.e. the temp did not rise over 35-38 Celsius.

thanks for the clarification. The 10th feels so far away :D wanna see some reviews already.

Souli, the video was actually very interesting.
They could not start the computer as they wanted to install the latest Yosemite, but were not able 'cause of dongle lack. She did not dwell on how they finally solved it.
Secondly, she mentioned some lag, but she considered it "normal for a mac" (She owns an 11" MBA). Thirdly, I was intersted how the computer was doing for a longer period of time doing some demanding job. She said it was fine playing for hours and as I mentioned the computer did not even get warm.

I don't buy it. Why no video of them playing Diablo or editing photos and videos for over an hour as they claimed? Why no unboxing video? The only proof we have they had a working unit is one very tightly cropped photo of a benchmark? I call BS.

I don't know whether it is a BS or not.
I have my own reservations concerning the rMB, to put it mildly.
I summerized what was said in the video.

If it can turbo all day long without throttling it'll be amazing, but again that's an engineering task I hope apple has nailed!

I'd be surprised if it would turbo boost longer than few seconds or at tops minutes.

Forget virtualizing software like Parallels Desktop. Forget playing HD movies connected to a external display such as the Thunderbolt/Cinema Display.

The current MBA line is struggling with these task and even though it has active cooling, it still gets hot. Heat means the battery gets fried!

Why would you be surprised?

Continues Turbo boost will build up a heat and that heat has to go somewhere unless you want a damaged battery. Well, we will know within a couple of weeks after some proper testing. Performance is probably more than enough for most people who are just surfing, facetiming, wordtyping and what not. Until they want to watch a HD flash movie, then they hit the wall.

Since there are already fanless Core-M laptops out there like the Asus and those play flash movies just fine I'm not worried.

Please enlighten us all then. If you think a turbo boost is going to last for hours while you play games on a Core M chip with a fan-less design, you are dreaming.

Oh I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you on this thread. Just commenting on your posts in general. Have a nice day!

this is a machine for people that already have real computers and need a convenient way to get work done on the road when the mac/macbook pro is out of reach. too bad about the missing sim card slot. maybe next time

Its called an iPad Air 2. Every bit as fast if not faster. Lighter and half the price. I dont get how this is some ultimate MB for email and web browsing....this isnt 2008 anymore. An iPad can do all that in a smaller, lighter, cheaper package. The new MB will run most productivity apps like garbage anyway. So "getting work done" means email and internet. icloud photo library lets you manage on any device as does Lightroom mobile. Forget about doing any video editing on the MB. So whats that leave? Once again....internet and email. Dont need to spend 1299 to do that. This is the Apple Watch Edition of laptops....totally unnecessary

You can't compare a cars turbo to the turbo boost tech in these chips.

Turbo in a car is designed to boost along with the engine rpm so do you not take your diesel or eco boost engined car on the highway? That's going to be a sustained boost. Car turbo's go pop when people run more boost stressing components.

The turbo in these chips is designed to boost in bursts. It also has a new quicker reacting boost in comparison to previous gen chips. yes with active cooling on the i-series you can boost all day long but we will see what the thermal headroom on this machine is when it's released.

Find it a little too convenient that two of the three leaked reviews the Macbook`s have had issue running OS X. As for the MacBook I make my own mind on the performance once it`s released by Apple, not these guy`s chasing their 15 minutes of fame...

Q-6

110% agree.

I'm guessing you've never tried to write and manage citations for a 150 page grant on an ipad.

The more I see of the new MacBook, the more I'd rather just have an iPad Air 2. The Air 2 actually benchmarks higher

They do completely different things. I wouldn't be able to use an iPad as my primary computer for even half of what I do.

I'm going to use the rMB to get actual work done. Sorry to disappoint you.
