i don't have many complaints at all as far as coverage and reception goes... however, i do see a HUGE difference when i look at AT&T's 3G coverage vs. the 3G coverage of Verizon/Sprint.

would love to see AT&T step it up!

I just restarted my iPhone and 3G is working again... weird. I hope this isn't a stupid 2.2 issue that we'll have to wait months for to be fixed.

Yep!

Judging ONLY on the amount of TIME I see connected to 3G (and not counting "bars" which REALLY DO NOT MEAN ANYTHING) I would say yes, I am not on 3G as much.

That being said, I am loosing EDGE more too-last night at home, I lost ALL SIGNAL and before 2.2 I had 3G IN THE HOUSE.

Since I am pwned, I may go back to 2.1-I am really not sure at this point what to think of this. My evidence is anecdotal at best, but so far I am NOT IMPRESSED.

summary

Since I launched this thread, it is obvious that most people are seeing improved 3G service or no significant change. While my reduced 3G connectivity is certainly real, perhaps it is limited to my area (Louisville, KY) or to some issue peculiar to the software milieu in my phone. Shame, though. Big and noticeable change since 2.1 for me. Thanks for the responses.

My 3g signal has decreased since the 2.2 update. I went to the local at&t store to see if they were having network problems or if I should go all the way to the Apple store to have them look at my phone. (Nearest Apple store is 1 hour away). at&t said that it was a problem with my phone and that they weren't experiencing any outages in my area. Well, I went down to the Apple store, and once I got into the next county, my 3g came back and I had full bars. My phone kept 3g coverage the whole way to the Apple store, while we walked around the mall, while we ate dinner, and the whole way home until we got back in our county. That being said, it looks like the 3g problems, at least in my case, are because of at&t problems and not the 2.2 update.

They better get it fixed soon.

I've actually experienced just the opposite today. I have never had 3g coverage in my area, only where I work. I don't know if there was a recent network change in my area, but I now have 3g at home a couple days after the update.

Much Better Signal

I've been getting a MUCH better 3G signal since 2.2 in Minneapolis, MN. Previously I would go from a 5 bar 3G signal at home to 2 bar edge for no apparent reason (probably about 25% 3G and 75% Edge of the time). Since the update to 2.2, I am at 5 bar 3G signal 100% of the time!!!

Happy iPhone User!

Weaker signal

Since 2.2 I've noticed worse signal strength. I'm in the Hudson Valley in NY (no 3g coverage) and now my Edge reception is worse. My phone spent most of yesterday "searching" for a signal when it'd normally have 4 or 5 bars. Eeep!

Connection is still perfect for me. Haven't had issues since 2.0. I've also noticed FREAKIN AWESOME battery life since 2.2!!:D

I've noticed that since 2.2, when I do lose any form of AT&T connection, it now takes forever SEARCHING to restore service. Usually, I find it quicker to power cycle the iPhone and grab service back. I'll probably attempt a restore this weekend.

Don't restore your iPhone. Just toggle Airplane mode for a second. No need to always reboot your iPhone.
