This poll could have been simplified: Are there any good announcers in sport? Y/N

No, is my answer. They are more or less white noise. If I actually listen to what they say, I need a day or two to reestablish brain activity.

I have to say though that college American Football announcers generally are some of the worst, especially if there's someone the really like. I refuse to watch another Tim Tebow game for that reason.

I'm surprised that nobody has complained about John Sterling and Susan Waldman on WCBS Yankee broadcasts. I've actually enjoyed the radio announcers on San Francisco Giants broadcasts.

Any televised baseball game that has Joe Morgan as an announcer! "Hi, I'm Joe Morgan and I am in the Hall of Fame". Or, "since I'm a Hall of Famer I know a little about this"! I think we all get it, you're in the HOF. I seriously turn any game off that has him commentating on it.

I disagree.

There are some excellent play-by-play NHL announcers that I find really add to the substance of the broadcast. Guys like Chris Cuthbert and Jim Hughson are excellent.

I don't mind Sterling, Waldman is useless. But neither are as bad as Michael Kay.

do i dare...i do...john madden...worst ever

BAM! Right there!

i voted basketball. they always try to cover fouls and stuff for the refs. and some like Bill Walton just say dumb stuff.

The real crime about basketball is that during an interview a long time ago someone let one moronic player coin the phrase "ticky tacky". What the nit wit meant to say "nit picky'. Now we're stuck with "ticky tacky", which means nothing...

Hawk Herrelson. He is the play by play announcer for the Chicago White Sox. Someone should transfer him to call NASCAR races.

corrected it for you. he's a big homer, but i like him. rather have him than the pirates tv announcers (i don't know their names), now they are boring.

Waldman's cry fest after the Yankee's playoff loss a couple of years ago was the cherry on top..She's dreadful..
How about trying out a drunk Joe Namath in the booth?Tho last time he was on the sidelines,he was STRUUUUGGGGLLLLIIIING a bit

I said rest of the world football, but only when the Americans are the ones that are commentating for it. They are just terrible and don't have any idea behind what is happening in the game.

I have never watched hockey so I wouldn't know. I suppose I should qualify my opinion as "Not in my experience."

@ themoonisdown09: Excellent choice of words for that particular occasion. :D

I enjoy listening to the Spanish announcers while watching Soccer (Futball or Football for the non-Yanks). I barely understand a word they're saying, since they talking so fast; sounds like a lot of play by play. But their excitement is infectious. IMO, the most memorable part is the famous "GOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL!! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL!!!" when ever someone scores.:D

TV announcers are usually idiots. But the play by play radio announcers are great. They're alot like the Spanish announcers in that they get you excited about what's happening.

What? Three pages, and not one mention yet of arguably the most obnoxious commentator/announcer in college basketball: Dick Vitale?

"I'm psyched about today's game-- it's gonna be awesome, baby! In fact, I'll bet you $100 to a Diaper Dandy that I can finish this pre-game report with a rusty farm tool Lodged In My SKULL, BAYBEEEEEE!!!"
