Come on folks, cut the kid some slack. I'm sure he's not the only kid out there that has named their iPad, he likely has a name for his Scientific American calculator as well, and his pocket protector. Sadly I bet there is no Glee Club at his High School either. 😉


Luckily he's from California, can you imagine if he was from Nashville? (strumming a country lick) (singing) I almost lost my iPad todayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy........ 😛

I dunno about that. If I could be given two vast deserts or two ice cream cones, I know which one I'd choose, even if it was simply monetary. 😉

Yeah, sorry to hear that, OP. I was thinking "Why not go back, accidents happened and they credited you." But then when the waiter was laughing. Seriously? Wow. If I was him I'd feel so bad for doing that.

Glad to hear everything's okay. Those incases are nice but they're so expensive. (I mean, compared to my MacBook Pro's incase sleeve which, while requiring more material, costs less than the iPad's...)

I work for a wireless store and I cannot begin to tell you how many letters I've had to write customer's over the years stating the "value of their phone" so that it can be taken back to some restaurant to be used to get reimbursed for a phone that got a drink spilled on it. It's been a lot, and every time I think "Damn, nice of that restaurant".

On a side note, I am a firm believer that electronics have no place in proximity to a table loaded with food and liquids...I'm just saying.

As tablets and ereaders become more ubiquitous, people will expect to use them everywhere, including on tables whether during a lunch meeting or ifnflying solo. I'm on the road a good bit and now often bring my iPad into a restaurant to read a book while eating. Beats the heck out of staring at the other people in the restaurant.

But I'm also a fan of personal responsibility. If I bring my iPad in I'm pretty darned careful about keeping it away from my drink. If something like this happened and the restaurant was kind enough to comp the meal as a consideration, I can't imagine NOT going back.

Why is somebody using a device they have purchased in public a show off? are you showing off when you use a mobile phone? Are you showing off when you walk around in the new jacket you have just bought? Are you showing off when you drive to work in your new car? Are you showing off when you sip the new coffee you just bought?

Why is a guy sitting in a pub using his new iPad a show off?

When it doubt on water damage, 1. DO NOT turn it on, 2. put it into a bag of rice or kitty litter for a day or so. 3. Pray
 
I used to wait tables when I was younger and have never heard of anyone losing their job or having to pay for things out of their pocket because if a drink spill.

$140 is nothing for adults having dinner and drinks. Heck, there is my wife, 2 young kids and I when we go out and rarely have a dinner out under $100 after tip, etc. Last night, we were at a Mexican place in MD and my meal was $25, my wifes was $20, and each kid cost about $10. You then add an appetizer for around $12, and four desserts for about $7 each. Drinks was about another $15-20. Our bill I think was $115 before tip.

And just because someone spends $1200 on a handbag doesn't mean they do not know the value of a dollar. I appreciate everything I have and just because I may carry my iPad in a LV bag, doesn't mean I can just go out and buy another iPad of something happens to it.

Granted, the title of the thread and the lack of some details in the OP may have been a little much, but it happens. I was at a restaurants once and saw an entire bowl of CLAM CHOWDER get spilled into a woman's very expensive handbag -- Gucci, I believe. Anyway, this is part of going out and about. And restaurants have insurance that they use for these incidents.

To the OP, glad your case worked. Sorry to hear about the situation and glad some resolution has been made.

Where in the hell you guys eat at 😉. That's quite the dinner, especially with kids.

My wife, 3 kids and myself - $20. It's called McDonald's.

It was Uncle Julio's Rio Grande Restaurant in Gaithersburg, MD. Great food. Great atmosphere. Decent service.

Even McDonald's is over $30-40 for us. You guys must only order off the $1 menu. 😛 😀

Sometimes. Maybe just cheaper here in the Midwest.
