I kinda see where you're coming from there. The only reason I got the U2 one is because I found an absolutely amazing deal on eBay.

I had the iPod nano 1st gen and I thought it's the best iPod ever. When I first holding it, I kept telling to myself what if it's a phone. Yes, the screen was tiny tho and mine didn't scratch.

I thought it was the ugly anorexic runt of the iPod litter. Flat front with a sharp edge, not nice to hold in your hand. Sound quality was not much improved over the iPod Mini and woeful compared the unfairly maligned Shuffle 1G. Quite apart from the scratch sagas, which dwarfed Antennagate if anyone remembers, there was also the problem of the fragile screens that cracked too easily. The iPod Nano 2G was a big improvement in all respects.

2007 160GB needs to be separated from the 80GB, that thing is the biggest piece of garbage, if you actually use 80% of the capacity the thing is nearly non-functional. I voted for the 2007 classic, not only was the 160GB nearly non functional when approaching 80% capacity, the 2007 classics were nearly unusable for about 6 months because of the poorest firmware I've ever seen from apple. Initially coverflow was unuseable, playing games would reset play counts/ratings, iPod Classic would lose all information [ratings/playcounts] if it reset itself, the iTunes software was simply awful at the time in which it would freeze up about every minute then suddenly start working again.

Wow. I've had one of these since they first came out and didn't have any of these problems.

It's currently using 96% of it's capacity and works just fine. The only firmware issue I had was the very first update which knackered up remote control through 3rd party docks and was fixed within a couple of weeks.

I've never played any games on it so I can't comment on that but I didn't have any of the others problems you've listed. 😕

iPod U2. It didn't sell well, the colours were horrid and it was just a big fail IMO.

It's "the iPod for people who do sport".
Also "the iPod for people who like to keep things simple."

I'd have to say the white 5th gen iPod. The one from 2005 I think. That gray scroller turned green after awhile. Nasty thing. The best one I had was the first classic 160GB iPod, that battery was a beast.

The first gen nano was the worst. I remember how incredibly small it was, but the tiny thin plastic screen would get so scratched it became unusable after a relatively short period of use. Add that to the issue of them overheating and catching fire and you have just about the worst iPod ever. Overall, I don't think apple ever made a terrible iPod but just a few where they could have improved.

iPod 3G, easily. I loved the 4-button design of it, but with the damn 2-hour battery life I used it more as a (very good for 2004) portable 15GB HDD than a mp3 player.. I ended up never really using it at all until I got a 3GS last year.

3rd Generation Shuffle BY FAR. What an awful idea to only be able to control from the earphones. I will bet my life that apple will introduce a touch screen capable one next month or at very least put some buttons back on the damn thing. Just awful.

IMO they are not good iPods, because you have to fiddle with the touchscreen to do anything. That's a worthwhile compromise/feature on a phone, but for a dedicated iPod I think it's not good. Hence worst. I know that is an unpopular opinion though, sorry.

This is true, unfortunately. I have one of those 160GB models and I feel very ripped off.

I think this is the reason there has not been one with more capacity yet; the iPod Classic OS simply can't handle it and they have not invested in improving it.

I completely agree. For video and music playback my 5G iPod still takes the usability lead. The touch is great but it feels like its more of a personal organiser and the touchscreen isn't great for all things musical.

Is the 96% all music? If you fill it with videos you won't get the problem. The thing just can't handle the sheer number of files, it seems.

Having a bunch of Smart Playlists also seems to contribute to the problem, but IMO they are essential with that much music.

I completely agree. Not only is the touchyness of it not as convenient as actual buttons, but i think the touch iPod interface kinda sucks too.

All music, over 26,000 tracks and works a treat. 🙂
